wheres the other magic games at and how can i get them?
i just recently came across this game on my games list when i was downloading a bunch of them after building a new pc. so i decided to get back into this since my last pc wasn't up to par with handling the task of playing games since it was basically a workstation with no gpu. anyways, i had some spare money and wanted to pick up some of the older ones i used to play on ps3 back in the day. mostly duels of the planes walkers. (i really miss my artifact deck) but when i went to the store page to find them, every link in the store i clicked on said that the game isn't available anymore. i'm glad i have this version but why can't i get the other ones anymore?

does anyone have any steam links to download those older games?

also, does the online portion of this game work anymore or am i stuck playing against the ai? it's been about 10 years since i played magic and i thought it would be cool to get back into it, at least on pc instead of the real world. :steamfacepalm:

Not sure about your 2nd question, but wizards removed the option to buy the old planewalker games

i think theres a way of doing it. so for example, theres one game in particular that i have where you can get a special cosmetic item in that game if you have or had another game in your library at any point in time. the catch with that is the fact that game is also no longer available on the steam store. but there is a steam link that allows you to add it to your library and download the game still even though the game itself doesn't actually function so you can get that cosmetic item in the other game because it is in your library.

the game in particular that i'm talking about is deathgarden. I got that added to my steam through a link. So i am assuming that you could theoretically do the same for all the old magic games. if anyone had the link to it?

These games were all removed around the same time, after Wizards stopped working with Stainless and moved toward their own game platform, likely to avoid having to pay Steam 30 percent on every transaction. The only way to add these games to your account was to buy them on the store. I don't believe they ever created steam keys, but if they did, they would be very rare and expensive. If somehow you got an unused steam key, you could activate it and add the game that way.

However I discovered they did publish a new Magic game to steam last year, although it's nothing like the old ones.

It's called Magic Spellslingers.

Yeah it's probably a mobile port.

there's a free to play mtg game called MTG Arena, and it's up to date to the latest expansion.
it's not on steam tho, you have to download it directly from wizards's website

The only way you can still get the Duels of the Planeswalkers games is by pirating them. Nothing wrong with that if WOTC doesn't want to sell them anymore. There are still Steam keys on sites like Kinguin but they cost literally like $900.

I'm guessing it's a steam gift. I don't think there are any keys since it was only sold directly on Steam.

Yeah it's a gift actually

If devs refuse to sell a game, then you're completely in the right to acquire it by other means

If someone refuses to sell you something, you do NOT have the right to steal it.

Will they care? Who knows. But that doesn't make it 'right'. Try arguing it in court if you think otherwise.

In the case of software, yes I 100% do. The creators aren't selling it, so it's not like I can buy it instead. Ergo they lose nothing aside from a sale, which is their own fault.
Also what's right and what's legal are two different things. It's illegal to beat up chomos, but it's not wrong

Them not selling the software doesn't mean they have relinquished ownership. Unless they choose to make it freeware then it is wrong as you didn't buy it and because you can't are looking for some way to get it through illegal means. Whether it may or may not have further consequences because it is no longer offered doesn't change that it is still wrong.

And jumping from stealing software to a "chomo" discussion is an extreme leap into the ether. All I will say is that because people go overboard and follow the mob mentality is why we have laws to prevent worse atrocities (such as targeting the wrong person, or someone who got the wrong perception because people jumped to conclusions).

If I made a program, regardless of how popular it was, and decided to stop selling it without giving others the permission to obtain it free, then anyone getting that program from other sources would be stealing and I would have every right to collect to the extent the law allows. Not saying Wizards of the Coast and/or Stainless Games would do something like that, but they would be within their rights.

Bottom line it is still stealing no matter how much you try to justify it. And putting it in the same view as "beating up chomos" is a rather horrible worldview.
