Post 1.0.2 Update, weird aliasing, visual issues around character
Hello, this will require a bit more research on my end, but I wanted to start the conversation.

Pre 1.0.2, I was running the game on a mix of maximum and high settings, utilizing DLSS Quality mode, no DRS, with DLSS Frame Generation. The game looked incredible and crisp. Now, post 1.0.2, there is noticeable artifacting, almost ghosting, around at least the user character and it got worse as I stripped rendering technology options.

I will conduct more testing when I have time later. Sorry I cannot deliver more at this time. While I am away, I will verify game file integrity and see if that helps at all.

My system:
Windows 11 Pro with the latest and greatest patches/updates
Ancient 9900K Intel CPU
4070Ti (non-super) 12GB VRAM
16GB DDR4
Various SSD storage options.... ACS is on an SSD

Game Running / Looking worse. Big issue with rendering more frames
Posted with the wrong topic

After today's update, and finally adding NVIDIA DLSS support to the Frame Gen options (I know it was there before but now it is consistently) it feel like the game is stuttering which it wasn't before and even though I play on ultra settings the world looks like mush from any sync point. I usually spend a good amount of time in photo mode because I think the game is beautiful, but after today's update somehow this game runs and looks worse? Am I the only one?

I did some research in benchmark and it looks like the game is somehow rendering over 4000 more frames than my previous benchmark from the prior update. I took a screenshot and am going to find a way to update. This is absolutely wild.

Man I just posted this exact same thing basically. I noticed the game running and looking way worse today compared to yesterday. I did a benchmark with the same settings and I'm rendering over 4000 more frames in benchmark. This could 100% be why the game is noticeably running worse.
And they didn't fix the pixelated hairs when using hair strands option. Aliasing is a huge problem they need to fix in this game.

sucks because I was actually enjoying the game a lot, but I refuse to play with stutters. I wish I could upload my picture of the benchmark to show, but my avg fps is 98 and there are just completely random spots where the fps will drop to 1, which is a literal stutter by definition.

I verified game file integrity, no issues there. I ran the game a bit more and traversed the world a little bit. There is a very noticeable drop in quality. Lots of ghosting-styled aliasing around a lot of the world, not just the player character. There is also a lot of hitching and hiccuping seemingly in the form of frame dropping. The game ran buttery smooth prior to the patch, but now has these issues.

@the devs, let me know what hard data I can compile to research on your end if you are unable to replicate this yourself when booting the game.
I want to leave my screenshot comparisons here as well, so devs might see it because they seem to disregard this issue for some reason.

oh wow that really is weird, funny enough I was just complimenting them on the way the hair looked yesterday but you're totally right.

It looks fantastic in cutscenes or when hair is really close to the camera but otherwise there is something completely wrong about anti-aliasing on hair, or lack there of.

Not sure if this will fix it for you, but I did somehow notice better fps (still rendering 4000 frames more than last patch in benchmark somehow) by turning dynamic resolution off. Not sure how my fps got better and the game now looks a lot better too. I swear, I'm a software engineer and this game is giving me a migraine with how much fine tuning I'm having to do to find a playable experience after this patch.

Hey everyone!

Thank you for reporting the visual issues that appeared after the recent update.

Alcatraz1015, could you please delete the config file ACShadows.ini to let the game automatically set the settings and then check if the issue persists? The path to the config is: Documents\Assassin's Creed Shadows\
Additionally, I recommend turning dynamic resolution off, as BournZ mentioned above.

BournZ, thanks for sharing this information with us. Could you please report all issues through the bug reporter[ubi.li] so we can investigate them more closely?

I also merged your topic with this one.

Thanks, so for the record, I never once used DRS prior, and only used once to see if I could get any better (or worse) results. However, deleting the ini seems to have helped the hitching I was experiencing, but I still feel like there is some weird aliasing happening around the player character... but I am not sure if it's anything I can detail in anyway without you standing next to me to see it... but it does not ruin the experience or anything, I wouldn't say. It's just some ghostly looking anomalies on the edge of the character as I move about the world or pan the camera around the character. This was not present prior to the patch. I know this type of visual issue can occur when using older versions of FSR with or without any sort of frame generation technology, but I am using DLSS (quality) with DLSS frame generation and again, this did not look this way previously. It is curious.

You may also need to delete the shader cache which is also in Documents\Assassin's Creed Shadows\cache. It should have rebuilt the cache on the first start up after the patch (Also any time you upgrade drivers) but if it did not then it could cause anything from start up problems (It's trying to rebuild the cache but crashes part way) to texture problems (blurriness, pop in, etc.) in the game.
