Weirdest thing . . . every time I launch the game it reboots my PC
I updated to the newest Nvidia drivers, and I was playing fine all Friday and Saturday morning. Then Saturday evening I launched the game and when it got to the "Connecting Online . . . " screen during startup, my PC completely rebooted.

This is happening every time now, and I can't get into the game to play it! I verified integrity of files, I uninstalled and reinstalled, I disabled my virus program just for kicks, reinstalled Ubisoft Connect. Nothing has helped.

Every time I launch the game it reboots my PC before I get to the main menu. What the heck is going on?!? So frustrating!

Happened to me too a bunch. tried all sorts and so far it seems limiting my monitor to 120hz rather than 240 has fixed it
I got it to run by opening Ubisoft Connect and launching the game from there, instead of Steam. Worked twice so far. Fingers crossed. Very strange bug indeed. I will remember the 120hz vs 240 if I still have troubles.

I sure hope this gets sorted out by Nvidia, Ubisoft, or whoever.

Same for me, it just restarted my PC 20 times in a row, what an absolute waste of my life, limiting frame rate didn't sort it

Try launching it from the Ubisoft Connect app. It worked for me.

I believe it's an Nvidia thing as the same thing happened with cyberpunk when that got DLSS 4 as well

Hello everyone,

I'm sorry to hear that Assassin's Creed Shadows started randomly rebooting your PCs. I can understand this is frustrating.

So far, we have seen advise from players here to launch the game from Ubisoft Connect directly or limit the refresh rate of their screens, if it's above 120Hz.

If anyone here still experiences this issue, despite the two mentioned workarounds tried, please let us know.

Also, try the following steps:
Clear Steam Cache folder

Clear Ubisoft Connect PC Cache[www.ubisoft.com]

Delete the game configuration file (ACShadows.ini) and the cache folder that are saved in your Documents > Assassin's Creed Shadows folder.

Hi Ubi-Vinci - none of that works reliably. What I have found that DOES work is as soon as I launch the game, I alt-tab so the game isn't full screen. My desktop must be visible during this time. Once I get past the "Connecting online . . ." screen and the game starts up, I can alt-tab back to full screen and the game loads fine.

I sure hope you find a fix for this as it is a VERY annoying bug.

Thanks for the update, FroBodine.

You wrote before that launching the game from Ubisoft Connect directly helped you. Does this mean the issue returned? Or the alt-tab method is for launching the game directly from Steam client?

I've had yet another hard crash even with limiting to 120hz. took a lot longer though
Hi Ubi-Vinci - yes the rebooting of my machine continues to occur even when I launch directly from Ubisoft Connect. It worked a couple times the other day when I wrote that post, but since then it hasn't worked.
So far, the only thing that seems to let me get into the game is to launch it from either Steam or Ubisoft Connect, then immediately alt-tab out of the game until it gets past the "Connecting online . . . " screen and the main menu graphic starts playing. Then I can alt-tab back into the game and play.

Thank you for the update, FroBodine.
I imagine this is not great.

If the game crashes during the online connection phase, it may suggest connectivity issues, however, tabbing our letting you pass it is interesting.

If you would like to help us investigate it and record this behaviour (both the crash and tabbing our fix) and share it with us, I'd be happy to pass it on to the game team.

You can upload this video to YouTube and share the link to it.

We would also ask for diagnostic files from your PC and Ubisoft Connect launcher logs.

Hello - I am not interested in recording my game play for this bug. Sorry. There is nothing to see. When the game loads and gets to the "Connecting online . . . " screen, it immediately reboots my machine.

Strangely enough, yesterday I was able to load the game normally twice without having to alt-tab out during the boot up portion of the game. But today it started doing it again.

I don't mind sending you my dxdiag and ubisoft logs. Where should I send them, please?

You have testers that you pay . . . please investigate this bug. I hope you fix this bug.
I have received this error multiple times, too. Perhaps it's related . . .

Has anybody found a fix for it
For me, it stopped happening about a week or so ago. Not sure if the game developers fixed something, or if Ubisoft Connect fixed something, but I am able to launch the game normally now.
