Enemy numbers on the Scarlet Coast are just too much and calamities trigger way too easy
Sorry but having dozens upon dozens of enemies appear at the same time especially at the Scarlet Coast often triggering a calamity on top of it is IMO almost impossible to deal with. Putting different enemy groups super close next to each other in a way you are bound to trigger multiple groups at the same time doesn't really help either.
Even if we just talk ammo wise it's just way too much to handle I think.
By the way the calamities are triggered way too easy, a few stray shots or some melee hits in the back when you're getting swarmed and you have a calamity on your hand making your life even more difficult.
Come to think of it what's the point of a calamity anyway?
I dunno but I fail to see the added value of this system. Maybe if it wasn't on top of the game already throwing hordes of enemies at you it would have been more fun, but now it feels like just an extra way to throw even more enemies at you, which you don't need at that point.

Another weird thing is at gnosis 2 I find the Iron Castle to be way easier then the Scarlet Coast if you skip the boss fights of course, but the Iron Gate has a much higher defense rating.
So yeh anyway as you might have guessed I had a real ♥♥♥♥♥♥ run or 2, hopefully this gets balanced a bit more in the future.

Cheers

If you think Scarlet Coast is harsh, wait until you get to the Irongate Castle. Cause then you will really have something to complain about. That area is relentless with tons of grenadiers, frost and lightning swordsmen, and other chonk baddies that pack a wallop and drain your stamina to nothing in an instant.

Spike that gnosis up to 4 or 5, and then you are facing all that, but in elite form, as well as some other nasty enemies that you will hate, that come in large numbers. Good luck with ammo conservation.

If you had read my post you had seen that I think the iron gate is actually easier....
You right, distraction does that, did not read it all...

I don't see how you can find it easier. But to each his own. I'd much rather fight crawling bushes, than the cluster that is Irongate. Specially at higher gnosis. The enemies don't really change much in Scarlet Coast, if at all. But they definitely ramp way up in Irongate. I don't think I ever got a calamity in Coast. But they happen every run in Irongate. In Coast, I usually just clear the map, fight the big fat boss, and then repeat it until I feel contented.

Would like to see a new area though. Maybe an intermediate between the two.

Never? wth I have a calamity every time sometimes even 2 :)
I like the Iron gate because I fight close up with a revolver and shot gun. Dunno maybe I've been lucky so far there, but this eems to work there better then on the scarlet coast.
Even on highest gnosis, scarlet coast is mostly filled by pretty weak enemies. The worst you get is pair of grenadiers or devotee hiding up in trees in the middle part if map.
Open, easy to read battlefields makes it easy to pick targets at will.
Calamities are free resuply program. Even cursed ship is bearable on this map as you have clear view at sky almost everywhere.
Easy boss, easy vault.
And it has pretty high witchfire multiplier for its low difficulty.

Best map overal, top choice for lvling items and spells, especialy area with reg eggs is great for spell lvling.
Maybe try different gun combos. Try Hypnosis or more long range guns and staying back. Scarlet coast can be tough, but it's wild to me that you find it harder than Irongate Castle. I can clear Scarlet Coast pretty easily at my current level as long as I'm not messing around / focusing on leveling up a gun, but still get my butt handed to me in Irongate Castle even when I'm trying.
Yeah I'd suggest trying a different loadout. My default is Ice Stilleto + Ice Sphere, Rotweaver + Frostbite, Ear + Mandrake + Ring of Excreta
