Witchfire Support Guide | Early Access (WIP) Edition.
Greetings, Preyers!

Even the best laid expeditions can sometimes fail unexpectedly – if it’s a case of underestimating your enemy, our hands are tied and it’s on you; you just need to have a bit more practice. If, however, it’s a case of something going wrong on the software level, we’re here to give you a helping hand and offer solutions that may just work.

Please bear in mind that the game is still in Early Access and while we’re doing our best to deliver every build in as polished state as it can be, bugs are going to appear every now and then. It would be marvellous if you were kind enough to let us know about them either here, in the Tech Support & Bug Reports section, or on our Discord.[discord.gg] Thanks!

If the game refuses to launch, please do the following:
  • Reinstall the game;
  • Verify games files via Steam: right-click on Witchfire in your library, select “Properties…”, choose “Installed Files” from the list, and click on “Verify integrity of game files”. This may take a moment, please be patient.
  • Make sure that your drivers are up to date – please scroll down to see where you can do it.
  • If you’re using custom GPU “afterburners” (AA, downsampling, etc), please disable them in control panel of your graphics;
  • Disable Nvidia App overlay (it has been causing trouble in the past);
  • Disable Steam in-game overlay;

How can I update my GPU drivers?
If you have an Nvidia GPU, please follow this link: Nvidia Drivers;[www.nvidia.com]
If you have an AMD GPU, please follow this link: AMD drivers;[www.amd.com]
If you have an Intel GPU, please follow this link: Intel Drivers.[www.intel.com]

It’s a good idea to let Intel Auto-Detect run its magic regardless of your GPU – there is a chance it will find newer version of drivers for other hardware, as it is not GPU-specific software. Alternatively, if you have some soft of an on-board software that was provided with your PC and has an utility allowing you to update drivers in bulk (e.g. Gigabyte Control Center), please give it a go.

If your system is based on 13th or 14th generation Intel CPU updating your BIOS may also solve problems with the game. Unfortunately, there is no single path to follow - different motherboard manufacturers have different ways of performing the update, but it's a good idea to head over to the motherboard manufacturer's site and use it as a starting point. If you are still not sure what to do, this how-to guide may show you where to begin.[www.tomshardware.com]

My PC does not meet the minimum requirements, but the game works – it just crashes in intensive moments, is there anything I can do?
Not really – the minimum requirements are there for a reason and while there always is a chance the game is going to work on a machine below the threshold, it may not have enough performance to handle most intensive scenarios. Please be advised that the system requirements may be subject to change during and after the early access period.

I have a dual monitor setup and the cursor keeps leaving screen when I play.
Please use the Dual Monitor Tools[dualmonitortool.sourceforge.net] and set up a hotkey to constrain your cursor to a single monitor, or just lock it to the monitor used while playing the game.

My PC meets the minimum requirements but the game is still stuttering and it renders Witchfire unplayable.
There are several things you can do:
  • Please try lowering the quality of graphics in game – it may be a case of auto-detect going a tad wrong and setting details/effects/resolution a bit too optimistically;
  • If you’re playing on a laptop equipped with both integrated and discreet GPU, please make sure that the game uses the latter;
  • In case of AMD GPUs, please also make sure that the FreeSync is turned off;
  • Disable Control Flow Guard in Windows Defender – it has been know to have a huge impact on performance.

I’m using an Xbox Controller and I am experiencing drift in pause menu.
The only cases of this have been happening when user was running a dual monitor setup and the workaround is simple: plase make sure that Witchfire is running on the primary desktop monitor of the setup.

The game doesn’t even start, what should I do?
First of all, please take a look at the troubleshooting guide above and make sure that you did everything we have mentioned there - only the full process ensures us that the installation of the game and all the drivers are in order.

I have an ultra wide (21:9) or a super ultra wide (32:9) screen as my primary one and the game does not launch, showing an error mentioning video card memory. What can I do?
If you are running a setup that consists of a few screens of different ratios, please try setting the one with the most common ratio (preferably 16:9) as your primary one, launching the game and changing the primary screen to the one of your preference. If it does not and/or your setup has only one screen and the game does not launch, please let us know either here, or on our Discord server.[discord.gg]

I have been fighting the familiar on Scarlet Coast, Calamity happened and he disappeared – it seems that he fell under the map and he is still attacking me.
Cliché warning – it’s not a bug, it’s a feature! The fight is not over, he simply hides when calamity occurs; you need to follow his icon on the map, he hides in a crevice up north. Simply jump into the fissure and cushion the fall by applying double jump before hitting the bottom – once you’ve landed, continue the fight; the familiar will leave a portal among his remains, allowing you to teleport back to the hermitory.

I am using DualSense Controller and my sound becomes muted when I reconnect it, what can I do?
We’re aware of this issue and while it’s not strictly related to a problem in-game and is caused by the way Windows sound devices work, we may have a workaround on a way – please stay tuned.

I have a suggestion/feedback regarding the game – how can I get in touch with you?
Feel free to leave feedback right here, on Steam, or join our discord – you can do so by clicking on this link.[discord.gg]

Cheers!
