Love rifles, but starting to struggle.
I've used frostbite in the past, now hypnosis, both of which have great burst but terrible DPS. Hailstorm is also fun, but too little ammo. I'm at gnosis 2 now and starting to struggle whenever mobility is needed (the ritual in the castle map is brutal). How can I make these incredibly satisfying rifles work? Just pair one with a high dps high mobility weapon like echo?

Hypnosis is prolly one of the best and easy to use rifles in the game
Pair it with something like Cricket for quick up close mass clear and you're golden

Have yet to use Cricket as I'm not a big fan of auto weapons, but I'll try it.

it's pretty fun imo and has really good dps, but reeally low range
a good pair for a long range focused weapon
Echo would prolly work fine as well, I just hate the whole sliding mechanic personally (it might be mysterum 3 so you didn't encounter it yet, I don't remember)

from what I've seen, freezing/stunning spells go well together with long range weapons as well

I am also at Gnosis 2, but it has become easy in the castle. I run with Hypnosis for longer range and Echo for closeup. All upgraded fully. Third one is the vulture for the big elites.

Light spell for stunning and heavy for the frost dome if I get overwhelmed. Helps at the lower gate where you fight against ~10 swordsmen (there is a way to cheese them though ;)).
I haven't died now in a long time and would be ready for Gnosis 3. But I'll wait until full release.
I think the rifles are pretty decent. Frostbite is probably my favorite due to the balance of damage and ammo quantity. I think Hailstorm is probably the best burst damage, but ammo is quite limited. I've also been struggling with an apparent bug on Hailstorm. Very frequently (especially against Hollow Witches) the bullet will simply stop in midair before it reaches the target, seemingly hitting an invisible wall. I'm not sure what on Earth is going on, but it's fairly common that it'll happen up to three shots in a row. In order to prevent that bug from happening, I need to close to an impractical distance and am better off with a mid-range weapon.

Hollow witches are weird... for me it seemed like their projectile was hit when this bug occured, just like how you can shoot down projectiles from buckler swordmans

Yeah, I'm starting to see this now too. I'm not sure if it's one of their abilities or what. A high percentage of the time, the hollow witches seem to stop my bullet in mid-air. It doesn't seem to matter which weapon I'm using.
I think hands-down the worst starting rifle is the All-Seeing Eye. However, I've upgraded it a couple of times and this thing is really, really powerful in the correct setting. It seems like there are several different ways to combine spells and weapons, and with the right strategy they can be extremely powerful. Unlocking some of the weapons' more advanced abilities really opens the game up.
Hypnosis is good enough to work with by itself on gnosis 4, I have no issue running any content with it. Frostbite is harder to manage and more gimmicky. Umm what to pair it with is up to you, half the arsenal works, but from raw damage standpoint echo currently deletes just about anything, especially with some specific arcana combinations. Cricket is a monster as well.

What makes more difference is your items you equip and your spell combinations. There are several that will wreck anything. They are a force multiplier, especially once get few elements on an enemy and then you just create a chain reaction via something like echo.
