Difficulty spike
Started playing today: I fooled around in the starting island a bit before getting entrance to the tower and getting the chart for scarlet coast, i had researched a second weapon and light spell and the game was of reasonable difficulty but as soon as i go to scarlet coast the amount of enemies triples and they take 1.5-2x the shots which ruins the flow i had from the first area. I am not exactly sure how to progress

Ive ruined my 1st gameplay by pushing to quick with Gnosis lvls. Dont be hasty there - sometimes its better to grind some places to lvl up and open mirror slots to develop some nice relics/rings/spells etc
If you have trouble surviving i would recommend getting Henbane fetish 1 elixir will heal you to full also frostbite weapon is great defensive weapon since you can freeze all enemy type for like 4 sec.Eye Of The Madwoman or Painted Tooth is great relic for dmg for rings you cant go wrong with Crown Of Fire.
For incense best is wellspring it will give you like 50% more hp by the end of a run.
For stats
Frist Endurance to like 20-30 so you hava at least 5 dashes
Vitality to 20 thats like 150hp+ incense of wellspring will get you to like 200hp
Witchery to 40% recharge speed that will make it so you have all spells for every fight
Luck 20-30 will give you like 3-5 heal elixirs per run on 10 luck 0-1 elixirs so it helps a lot.
Healing is late game stat when you have so much hp even with boost of hanebane you need more healing or if you run monkshood fetish.

Last Metanoia this is the worst stat in the game for example 1 level for me cost 50k witchfire
in a normal castle run i get 150k witchfire so if i put 3 levels in metanoia it cost 150k and i get 5% more witchfire thats 7500 witchfire more each castle run so you need to play at least 20 castle runs just to make back the 150k you put in,it just better to put 3 levels in to some other stat that will help you survive.

I wouldn't invest in endurance until like lvl 50. It's a dead stat because aoe dmg trumps all in this game.

Luck is completly useless. Never put a point in it until everything else is maxed.

Healing is the same, just equip henbane which makes healing absolute and only invest in it after you can only choose luck/metanoia or healing.

Vitality and witchery are both the most important stats you can have.

Witchery lets you spam burning stake/fireballs. It's by far the most important stat until you get to ~50%. As I said in this game aoe trumps everything.

Vitality combined with henbane is broken. The amount of points henbane saves you is absurd(+125% healing) and on top of it it gives you dmg reduction and thus nigh immortality after consuming an elixier for 8 seconds. Not to mention the faster healing ticks.

Henbane alone is kinda the same as putting ~70 points into healing.

Luck does make the game harder, it spawns lesser calamities which is in your favour for edit: ammo not armor xD/elixier supply.

Tldr. Ignore healing, metanoia and especially luck. Focus on witchery and vitality. 21 endurance is fine for the whole game on any gnosis.

Just wait until you get to the third map, it's total trash. Just full of enemies that hunt you down and sponge damage...

Nah, endurance is the most important stat.
You spend a lot of time running around, having more stamina for dashes and jumps to traverse faster will go a long way.

Also, there are more broken combos.
The relic that gives shield combined with incense giving additional chance to not lose shield.
You can basically facetank pretty much everything and not take any damage.

Armoured enemies take massively reduced damage, but with high damaging weapons, elemental damage and by stunning them you basically bypass their defenses
