Frankly, that mechanic against Familiars confuses me a bit, as I've shot a ton of their orbs to never earn a stun, but your gear can be good enough to kill them without worrying about that if you find yourself confused like me.
Other than that, it is very much a game where upgrading your gear/levels greatly increases your chances of survival. Knock out a few easy runs, upgrade your gear, and then you'll find that same section easier.

2. Stamina is the most important stat in the whole game. Learn to dodge.
3. Learn maps and enemy behaviour.
4. Sometimes its better to step into the portal/run away instead of fighting.
My favorites are the Echo shotgun, the Grenadier summon, and the Fireball spell. finding a loadout I was comfortable with was a massive gamechanger.
But I think for starters is to get the cursed bell which is a heavy spell that you can use to stun minor enemies for a good short while.
Be sure to upgrade your stamina, your witch-fire gain and your ability to use more spells often in the ascension shrine. Those three can be more important then health, health recovery from potions, and luck.
perfect , i just plaxyed the first hour of the game and the first things i upgrade was health xDDD
I've run into the same, but with highest spot on the mountains and a sniper i do some progress here xD
There is an item re-arranging the defences - placebo pill. Also, its doable with proper build like utilizing Burning Stake.
Anyway, once you get used to the game you basically dont die at all and the games becomes pretty easy (at least here at Gnosis III, lvl 36 im unstoppable). IDK maybe it gets harder at Gnosis IV.
I don't have a ton of time in the game, but you don't HAVE to do the entire map in one go. You can get some loot and extract, lv up, and then go back until you're more comfortable with the game.
• great weapons for me: Echo shotgun, Hailstorm sniper riflle - the first for close encounters, very powerful, explosive pellets and burning enemies after upgrades, second, perfect for long shots, after upgrades, most of lesser and medium enemies one shoted.
• spells: light: Stormball, heavy Burning Stake - cast Stake first and then Stormball on enemies, devastating combo, the stake explosions wiping out everything in mere seconds.
• relic - Eye of Madwoman - OP as hell, frying enemies on brink of death.
• fetish - Henbane - huge boost to healing elixirs.
• ring - Shadowmist ring - turn dashes into ligh weapon but on 3rd mysterium, they have 50% chance to freeze enemies.
Hope it helps...
