With all due respect, it doesn't sound like you have a proper HDR monitor. If you do, the difference is HUGE. HDR 600 is the minimum, HDR 400 Black or HDR 1000 (or better) is "true" HDR.
HDR colors look better, and lighting is much more dynamic.
I even tried using Special K (which can create HDR out of some SDR games), but Witchfire is one of those games that isn't compatible with Special K.
PS: Using HDR isn't "difficult" at all IMO. This is a myth created by people owning cheap HDR400 IPS and VA monitors, or cheap TVs with "fake" HDR.
I have tested over 50 HDR monitors, so your assumoption is wrong.
Also, wtf means "lighting is much more dynamic"? HDR doesnt create any dynamic.
And ofcourse using HDR is not difficult cuz you turn it on... TBH, you seems to be one spreading myths.
If you have tested 50 HDR games, and still can't figure out a few basic display settings, I'd call it user error.
Can HDR on PC be improved? Of course, but to say it's hardly even worth it, that's a bit over the top.
Btw., do you know what HDR stands for? High DYNAMIC range, ie. creating a higher dynamic range for contrast, and a wider color palette.
It's a been a while since I tested SpecialK, but it didn't work then - it crashed the game or was non-responsive. Maybe this has improved recently then, but obviously a native HDR solution will always be better.
I know why it is crashing, i think. You need to open SpecialK and look for the "Config File: SpecialK.ini (located in the bottom right of the specialK app in the library tab when opened, just click on the "SpecialK.ini) within that file you should change [Input.Steam] Disable=true to false then you should be good to go.
OK, thanks for letting me know!
