Struggling with running out of ammo. Any tips?
I've just unlocked the third weapon slot (demonic weapon), have two spells, some other abilities and what not but I often find myself running out of ammo. This is despite trying to stun enemies and going for the optimal amount of damage without just holding down the shoot button.

Any tips? Are there any abilities/items that let has enemies drop ammo when they die?

Sometimes enemies drop ammo, other times you have to plan a route that empties your ammo reserves, but takes you right near an ammo chest. I'm rocking one of the assault rifles, revolver, crossbow, and usually rocking the pustules and shocking cross skills. Pustules helps creates weak points, and the iron cross gathers enemies up. Ranked up assault rifle ricochets bullets between 3 enemies, and the revolver does more damage on the next reload based on how many weak points I've hit.

Up until the castle, I've rarely ran out of ammo. Need to build synergy between weapons and spells, possibility between relics and fetish items as well when you find them.
you can buy ammo pouches from the trader at the hub
Luck stat dictates enemy loot drop chance. Once you unlock the merchant, you can also buy ammo refills to bring with you.
are you making sure to head to the ammo chests when you are low ammo enough to get full use of them (I think they always give a full refill)?

For normal ammo, I believe yes. For demonic, no.
I have to say, the ammo situation does NOT feel good. Even the most BASIC enemies seems to take maybe a quarter of a clip of well-aimed shots to take down. I'm not asking for the game to be devoid of challenge, but every single weapon I get feels incredibly weak.

That, coupled with the fact that most of the progression systems are chained to each other makes the first two dozen upgrade levels feel like marking time as the enemies get more powerful.

I'd ask if I'm missing something, but I can't even upgrade my gnosis because it demands that I do some stuff on the second map, which is extremely difficult because I run out of ammo so quickly.

maybe its an issue with the automatic weapons? I started on the guy with the revolver and no other stuff and ammo is a concern but not to the point it halts my progress.

Any automatic weapons is running out of ammo at any case. So you need to equip in second slot something with 1 bullet shooting - like Striga. I am prefer Hypnosis. With some accessory, like tooth, it can deal about 200-300 damage in one shot. So it's killing half of the monsters in one-shot on Gnosis 4 (i am level 100). If you want to pew pew with automatic weapons in both slots, you should buy ammo packs from trader. Anyway, many weapons do a significantly low damage before they leveled up.
Ah yes, i forgot about Heavy Spell which granting you infinite ammo (if you have only 1 bullet in magazine) for a short period. It's incredibly good for some weapons. Like new handgun, you can full enemy with ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of bullets and reload after that. Big bada-boom incoming ^_^ ANY elite can be killed with only 1 magazine + this heavy spell.
Thanks all.

I didn't even know I could take ammo pouches from the trader so that will definitely help (not that I will rely on that but it's good to have in the backpocket).

Doing events also seem to always spawn ammo for both standard and demonic weapons so basically taking more risks will reward you in that aspect also.

I've only just started experimening with elemental magic to see which types combo with each other and I'm sure that will save on ammo as well.
same, I'm just getting started but with the auto-rifle I'm running totally dry as I get to the tower

Plan your route, do easier encounters first, and as you run low, grab an ammo chest. Invest points into luck, it does actually increase the chances of ammo dropping more than you'd think. Consume crystalized items in your inventory when you go back to the hermitorium and level to 7, start unlocking additional weapons. Aim for the head, and pick your arcana skills thoughtfully.

I did an experiment where I ran through and cleared the entire first level with the Penitent preyer (level 1, Hunger revolver, no upgrades or magic), and was able to clear the entire zone with ammunition to spare and didn't die once. It's all about the approach.

The weapons, so far, do not scale and neither do the enemies. So if this is your experience, I would say you are probably using the wrong weapon for the job? I have unlocked two automatic rifles (Midas and Richochet) and both are very good at dropping enemies. . .if used within their optimal range, and utilizing the Soul Sigil system. However, they are automatic weapons, so they really shouldn't be taking down dozens of enemies on a single clip.

On the other hand, I don't think ANY of the rifles are anything but one shot kills (especially headshots or critical shots).

. . .TLDR: there are issues with the game, but so far weapon balance has not been one of them.
my experience with ammo is that if you upgrade your guns they are more effective thus less ammo will be required to kill enemies. i had the same challenge also some guns use more ammo then others maybe pick a gun that will do high damage per shot and you can headshot a lot and maybe a gun that is more ammo hungry, focus on upgrading your fav gun and use its abilitys so you can kill your enemies more effectively. upgrading can result in a out of ammo situation to a i dont need ammo cache anymore. also luck will help you out specially if you use high damage per shot guns

The more you play the better it become. But initally, a lot of Auto-Rifles\SMGs are just too weak without other abilities\leveling. Before i unlocked first bolr-action rifle, i was constatly out of ammo. And on first island you don't have enough of those portal-spawned enemies that always drop ammo. And this also add to new player issues.
