You say you like the gameplay then you need to understand the game mechanics. Worry not and read this:

Witchfire is not your regular go pew pew to everyone you see shooter. Please do yourself a favour and learn more about the game before buying it
You would have loved the earlier version of the game. It's almost to easy now.
Rasg0s ✔ got it all wrong. It's not about to earn, it's about to learn. It's not about farming, it's not about xp to level up. It's about learning your opponents and their moves, knowning the environment and how to take advantage of it.
The game felt really difficult for about those first 10 runs, at least for me, I never played a game like this before. I had picked a guy starting on lvl1. The game is still difficult but it's cool and fun and I really enjoy it.
No, the enemies are not op. The developer also emphasized on that in a recent post that they not scale their HP with your level. That means you'll soon becoming op on the first island. I can confirm that because I'm now at level 25 or 26 and after returning to the first island to finish a secret area it felt so easy now I couldn't believe.
Btw. I play Witchfire in VR with PSVR2 motion controllers, not a gamepad for what that game was designed and it just works. In my opinion it is very well designed. I remember that I struggled many times in the beginning but after realizing that I can convert witchfire into souls currency and continously leveling my stats up it was clear that I would beat the enemies.
Regarding the portals. If you wanna return to the hub you just have to wait until it opens and then instantly press X to return. There will be no enemies. Maybe you have to clean up the portal first because they spawn within in the portal intervall but then you just have to wait until it's active.
I think the only difficulty in the beginning is to find out how the game works. After that it is grinding, leveling up stats and gnosis and reveal a lot of secrets, fighting the bosses, finding relics, scrolls and other artifacts. I have so much fun with the slowly progressing game and now I'm already in the third area, which is currently the last available in the game according to the developer. With each gnosis level there will be new enemies, traps and secrets. And that makes the game harder, but you can choose when you level up gnosis and I farmed souls for a few hours before doing that.
Go in, get as much xp/souls as you can
You start struggling then find a portal and leave
Level up
Go back in
You get better and start slowly upgrading things and learning attack patterns.
Comeon guys, just say you suck at the game instead of blaming it
Just admit your bad at the game and move on.
Sorry but you are just whining at this point. And you are exactly what you say you dont... you are mad because you cannot dodge or kill the swordsman ALWAYS spawn at the same location at the same time.
I've not played Shooter-Games since Bioshock Infinite (and the last one before that was Classic Counter Strike) and still I dont have any issue with the situation you describe. Even on my first run the two Swordsman did not "oneshot" me while "spawning behind me". They spawn, indicated by a sound. They charge you, indicated by sound and VISUALS (on them AND you). If you cannot react to that or are unwilling to learn this simple mechanic (which will be part of EVERY encounter from that point on) you are just not willing to play the game and just want to whine.
Move on. Play something different.
Your experience with FPS games have nothing to do with what someone else enjoys or not. I played FPS games since Quake 1 and still think the gameplay loop here is awesome. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
