It spawns 2 totems (1 red, 1 blue) that make a "rattling" sound to help you find them.

When the gatekeeper turns the corresponding color to the totem, shoot the totem (gatekeeper red, shoot the red totem) otherwise the totem does light damage to you.

It spawns 1 on either side of the gatekeeper, when you kill 1 totem run through the keeper when it's "turned off" to get to the other totem.

can also actually utilize a double jump to get on the wall to the right, and then jump up on the overhanging roof on the side of the gate there and go around lol

just be warned it spawns quite a lot of swordsmen when you go in there lol

by extension, when you do clear all the swordsmen out of there and it wants you to pay the toll to open the gate, you can also manage to jump up on the roof and go around that 2nd gate without paying

I did manage to jump to the right but the swordsman pushed me out to the depth below.

The problem is I dont see anything like You described. I checked everywhere, the 2 small totems are missing.

Just jump on the roof right of the Gate and walk around it.

As other have mentioned that specific gatekeeper you can jump around it (most gatekeepers can be bypassed like this actually).

As far as the totems on that specific one I have seen one spawn on the tiny ledge just below you to the right in the image. I have also seen one spawn up on the cliff to the left.

The totems tend to be hidden a medium distance away from the gatekeepers, they're not immediately next to them you have search them out usually, hence trying to listen for their rattling sound.

listen for a rattling sound and head toward it, there will be a Blue totem you shoot hidden somewhere on one side of the gatekeeper, and an Orange one on the other side

if you shoot at least one of them then the gate keeper will be "off" when it tries to cycle to the color of the one you shot, and you can quickly walk under it

although usually you can just go around them
