Why is the options menu blinking?

I made it to stage 3 before game over, then went back to the main menu. The score attack mode and options menu have little flashing lightning bolts next to them. I assumed this means they had something "unlocked" as a result of me making it to stage 3.

The flashing bolt by the score attack mode went away once I selected it once, but the bolt by the options menu won't go away, and I can't see anything in that menu that's different from the default appearance.

I actually had found the cause a while ago, I just never came back to update the post. It's just a small visual bug - the "ranking & gallery" menu is supposed to be the one with the blinking icon, probably because there is a new saved demo replay you can watch. Once you go into the demo menu, the icon next to the options menu should go away.
