Unless I find enough scrap to make some turrets. You can survive as long as you are repairing the turrets as quick as they get damaged.
If I remember correctly, there are different ways:
- Running & dodging, but that's extremely difficult
- Rushing to T2 in order to get the mchine gun & the concrete blocks. Then you can build a base with 1 "line" entrance well surrounded by concrete & rocks, and fire at will
- Same but with gatling turrets instead of machine gun
- Build a great lot of T1 turrets, also healing them during the night with the miniaturizor
- Same but with a shotgun
- T1 turrets + T2 concrete and build a base shape so most of your turrets shoot at the same "distance", with 2 entrances (a bit like the top image of this page, with much less defense of course https://digordie.fandom.com/wiki/Building_Strategies)
I don't remember well what is working best sorry, but it's doable, and the difficult was not increased
But well, brutal is brutal, it was really made an extremely hard thing to achieve, same as with some of the achivements
I tried with 1 opening and the base at different levels . but no luck.
Thanks for the help i will try getting gatling turrets instead of machine gun
how did you do eventually? With gatling turrets ?
i did it with a concrete base , one entrance where the entrance path went up and down following the cement blocks to funnel the fire flies in one at a time , i had 3 1st tier turrents and i hide behind a cement block and healed the first one. that they all attacked.
All obvious, but this is what I did:
I went very slow in killing new creatures, ensuring I was ready for their onslaught before I started it.
The trick was to plan my base, and have a clear plan on what I needed in order to get the next tier equipment and weapons. And I would start the new tier plan on a morning, so I had all day to prepare for that fateful night. (With a manual save game that morning should I find I messed up going to fast.)
My 2 cents. The first night was indeed the hardest, after that game is simply slow with plenty of occasional deaths, but no stress or anything.
There are 3 tactics afaik:
1) Run like crazy through caves, digging tunnels, and closing gaps with earth. You will need earth and lots of save/reload. Easier with MK2 Minituarizator and of course shotgun, but there is an achievement to do it without anything. You may also prepare some areas tunnels, escape routes, platforms during day. Achievable after a while with a good seed/preparation.
2) Get rid of dogs, then you only have to deal with flying bugs. You build a big platform with nothing below and 5 turrets (max you get in T1 for scraps): 3 on one side, 2 on another. Then during night you just run back-forth, shooting bugs and repairing turrets.. the platform should be far above the reach of hund's huge jumps. Not very reliable as for me, there is often stone (which you can't dig) and getting enough energy gems slow down you a lot, so not enough time to dig.. good seed may help.
3) My favorite: single entrance base where mobs are grouped on one line so you and your turret can effectively kill those. I just replayed intro to make this screenshot for you:

Base needs to have 2 blocks at rear side, it prevents mobs from attempting to dig through it! Also notice the entrance, this somehow bug hunds, they are unable to enter the base reliable, standing or jumping in place.

Some more general hints:
- save often. You may revert back to previous save if you loose time due to mistake;
- you can quick-save if you see 2 bugs, kill them if no energy crystal drops - quick-reload, so you get enough to upgrade to T2 and craft minituarizator and turrets;
- collect all scrap, it's fairly easy to run through all map and then back to a crashed ship (best place for a base), collecting resources and killing blues and still have enough time to build base.. reload if not.
- collect flower of light (shiny underwater flowers), you need 5 to craft shotgun and 4 more for flashlight;
- craft shotgun ASAP and learn how to use single/double-shot in opposite direction to do "rocket jumps" and move much faster in general;
- collect BIG trees on your way, you will need wood to craft platform and base foundation (if you decide to go with tactic #3);
- obviously don't come closer to volcano on the right (the red bugs may spawn and can even kill you) or to a chasm on the left, don't kill red bugs/bats MANY nights (until you have good base with 2 entrances, repairing turrets, etc. otherwise you may get easily swarmed on brutal);
- obviously don't attempt brutal until beating game on easier difficulty first (difficulty doesn't matter, you just need to know thiings).
