anybody completed brutal mode yet?
i'm on like day 8 or so in brutal lol I notice night time there is much higher spawn of enemies that attack, and like the first night was almost impossible to survive unless you ran from one side of the map to the other (which is what I did xD) unless you got lucky with blue gem farming but from my experience setup a base on like night 2 or 3 and hollow out the ground below you i'm working on farming aluminum right now the 25 hp is kind of ... brutal but i like the challenge its fun

I personally haven't beaten the game on brutal but I have got to about teir 3 ish. And ima completely agree, its very brutal.

If you look at the achievements page you'll find that there is an achievement for beating the game on brutal, and it shows that there are others out there you've did it.

I even bet they'll be a few people to reply with their war stories here. :)

Yep, 0.2% of players did get the achievement, that makes about 200 people, so it's definitely possible (but ... brutal)

Yeah, the first night is hard but I normally place a few turrets, get a shot gun and dodge. Dodging is key because with the low health you can't afford to take many hits. I normally make a base semi high to keep dogs from killing me and then the turrets and I just shoot any flies that come close. I reccomend setting up a hydroelectric powered teleporter down in the underground ocean so you can get from there and the surface easier. It really is a must if you want to farm aluminum. I must say though, the final boss isn't that hard. The giant firefly gave me the hardest time out of any normal boss... (Do not read if you don't want spoilers) the demoness though, that is not any normal boss.

I did it.
First couple nights I just ran for it all night. After I had enough materials for several turrets, I made an above ground base and filled in all the tunnels, so the spawns are all above ground.
I used the shotgun and the miniturizer to heal my turrets during the night. I didn't loose too many. I also build my base a special way, with little towers to give the maximum firepower on an advancing beast.
I was very careful when killing a new creature, to make sure I could survive that new creatures night attack.

I finished brutal mode. I got lucky, blue gem farming like you said, and built a base in the mountains so monsters don't dig through. They still dug through and most of my turrets died every night even when repairing. However, I replaced the mountain with reinforced concrete walls when I had the chance so they couldn't dig through. Like WillieSea, I was careful when killing a new creature. I only killed it when I could defend against the older monsters without doing anything.

Oh, and advanced repair turrets. So many advanced repair turrets. Dozens, no, thousands! Make more, always more, never stop.

@RosK: ok, that's something. There might be 4 or 5 guys who did this (I don't really know), you are a warrior =)

I did Amish paradise on hard. I guess I will have to do it on brutal just so you know another person that did it. ;) lol
It should be a little easier with the volcano creature changes...

I am currently attempting it also and if you want we can work together to revolutionize base designs and strategies

one thing I was curious about most for trying out in a base design was to put it on the edge of the map prefered on the upper left side over the canyon / chasm included basically on the very edge of the map. i'm curious to see how monsters would spawn at night if you were to dig out the ground as usual and perhaps you could create a choke point one enteranced base without having to worry about attackers from the left side, but i've seen when digging before that monsters do spawn on the edge of the map so i'm not sure how effective this would be... but still curious if someone would try it out and see how the night time monsters spawn. My current design in brutal mode looks something like this at the moment and even though i'm using electricity it could easily be used as a design without electricity I was using no electricity with this type of design for quite a few nights i only recently got electricity hooked up for the bigger healing turrets.

night time attackers are happy with a multi enterance base and they rarely attack my walls with 2 choke points, eventually I will add more healing turrets under and above when I get materials to do so, and possibly add more turrets + make the choke points longer in length when i add more turrets but for now it works for me.

additionally I also noticed that night time attackers don't like spawning or going into large pools of water so if you were able to surround your base in a horizontal U shape then you could force attackers to only approach from the one side resulting in an easier choke point setup I suppose you could also fill it all in with backwall so they don't spawn there either but i've yet to try any of these methods.

I had to run the first 3 nights, but I finally found enough materials to start my base.
Here is a shot of it on day 9. Its easily defended from the first two creatures. I made sure I killed no other creatures until I can build a few more healing turrets. It could use a few more regular turrets as well. Then I plan on making my way to the west to cross the pit. And add the bats to the nightly attack list.

I've always thought building up against the mountian would be a good idea. That way monsters only attack from one side where you can focus all your defense. I normally end up just making a base near the ship crash though. By the middle of the game I have the ground low enough so dogs/dwellers can't hurt me and just aim all turrets to the sky while I myself shoot down upon the helpless monsters down there. At the end when the only monsters around fly/crawl on walls making the tatic uselss I just put platforms everywhere with turrets where ever I can. Also I get mass amounts of advanced repair turrets to make my base invincable.

My tatic was for the first night has always been dodge, dodge, dodge, shoot, and dodge for the enitre time.

I use towers to maximize firepower on incoming mobs. I also fill in all the tunnels under my base to prevent them from spawning and digging their way up. So I only have to worry about mobs from above ground and air. I have been just sitting there, doing nothing with my little base above. And that is with bats added. (3 healing turrets on each side)

This is my brutal base by end game. The picture is post game but nothing was edited and this is how it was when I escaped.

The turrets at the bottom during early and part of mid game were gone to avoid mobs climbing up but then when mobs could get up anyway at end game I put those down. I could just stand there for however long I wanted and nothing could get in. I am thinking my amish version would be like this but edited to not use the powerful repair turrets.
