Tips on getting into the crystal caverns
It's frustrating trying to get up and down the crystal caverns while soloing is there an easier way to get down with out having to risk drowning every time? a way to create an air pocket or something along those lines?

yes you can totally stop the water, just close the path behind you (with a wall for example).
But did you really went inside the crystal caverns ? You should not really be able to be drown there, with the special behavior of them when in contact with water

I look for underwater islands that are close together and make walls.

Another way is to make an airlock at the bottom, a door that you can open and close giving you access to the crystal caves. You just have to deal with the water that gets in each time.

Attain the highest-quality rebreather and miniaturizor available to you. Once you access the bottom of the subterranean, dig two blocks below, and one block right. Enter and close the top. Now, repeatedly fill and break the right block with concrete until the water is drained. You can now dig to and enter the caverns without the threat of drowning.

Check the mini-map in this screenshot for how I do it.

That's a fun way @WillieSea! I had never thought of that

That was a 'best case' scenario for how close the islands were to each other. Sometimes the islands are further apart and the bridge link is sort of long and can be tricky making it so it does not fail from the water pressure.

Indeed. And in general, creating a drain is easier. It's cool but overkill.

A drain takes a lot of time. You have to create a pipe through the crystal layer, then have it escape into the under-earth.

I don't think finding close islands is all that difficult, here is another game, and a different route through the undersea. Much closer to the pit, and thus the water was not as deep.

It's not really so difficult. Simply create an airlock and drain it into the crystal layer (mining two or three blocks of crystal isn't significant), or perform the trick I mentioned above.

Do you have teleporters? Just mine a tile below the sea bed, place a teleporter and connect wire to it. Then teleport beneath the sea bed without ever digging through it.

This is so; I assumed they were playing amish.

If you go to the mad crab's spawning spot you'll notice "surface" dirt, no water sitting on top of it. you should be able to tunnel down from there, would allow Amish players to make it quite quickly

I built a airlock with those metal doors so every time i go in only 1 block of water follows. Because of the crystals special ability, this is not an issue.
