April 2025 Developer Update

Greetings soldiers of Genua! It's been another busy month for our developers and artists as they create new characters, playable areas, and new combat mechanics that we plan to share in our future expanded demo this summer.

Technical Updates

One of the challenges with game development is when you fix one bug and another pops up in its place. It can feel a bit like a game of Whack-a-Mole, but we're glad our demo players are alerting us quickly when new issues arise.

This month we:

Improved audio volume in the opening text crawl
Fixed Shift key bug preventing players from sprinting
Fixed dialogue issues where // kept showing up in the text
Added ability for players to save at any point in the demo

Outstanding issues we're working on:

Optimizing keyboard/mouse setup
Improving combat camera mechanics
Adding option to skip dialogue or cutscenes
Backstab and sidestab mechanics and better visibility when you land one!

These are just a few of the items our team is focused on resolving, so rest assured we're hearing your input and working towards creating a GREAT player experience.

Art Corner

What's Coming

Demo Feedback

Just got through with the demo. Having read some earlier threads, I decided to use a controller rather than the mouse and keyboard. Overall I though it was well done. The systems are there, they work, and the transitions between battle and exploration were seamless. If there was a loading screen even once then I can't remember it, which is fairly impressive. 99% of Japanese users won't play it if it's only in English. The game looks promising, and even though it's advertised as a JRPG, so it's a real shame.

Demo feedback

Played the demo and love what i saw sure the game needs more work but will definitely keep a eye for it. If i might suggest some stuff id kill for a option to change key bidings and have to ask will this game have something like a open world to explore or just a set up stage u need to pass doing encounters. Keep up the great work and rooting for the game to be a success....

Demo Feedback

I just finished the demo and really enjoyed what I played. I am a huge of games like Tactics Ogre, FFT and The Legend of Heroes: Trials in the Sky and so on. Out of those, this game reminded me of Trails in the Sky the most. The graphics are really nice and I love 2.5D games so big plus for me. I however did at times struggled to understand what way the enemies were facing at a glace. I had to rotate the camera a bit, I might just get used to this over time, but I feel like its worth noting. Maybe adding ...

Started the Demo and am only getting Controller prompts and have no idea if KBM is even supported. Any advice would be appreciated.

March 2025 Developer Update

Greetings soldiers of Genua! We’re excited to bring you the latest updates on Aegis Force: The Scorian War and give a sneak peek of some of the amazing creative work going on behind-the-scenes.

Technical Updates

Raise your hand if you were ever personally victimized by the original backstab mechanic in the demo! Just me? Ok. Well, while we’re actively working on a way for players to know when they successfully land a backstab, we’ve also fixed some of the bugs in our demo build on Steam:

Removed automatic self-targeting: you can’t attack yourself now!
Made display settings easier to use for controllers
Added “How to Play” screens for keyboard/mouse and controller setups
Resolved some issues with intermittent freezing

Here’s some examples of what our developers are actively working on based on your feedback:

Backstab and sidestab mechanics
Experimenting with better camera angles during combat that don’t make players feel seasick
Ensuring objects and text above characters doesn’t block the view
Adding more interaction with animals, objects in the environment
Tightening up the dialogue in the demo

And of course, they’re making a TON of progress on the rest of the game, which we can’t wait to share more of in future updates and demo builds!

Our team is very small, but we are so lucky to have some truly gifted and dedicated artists working on this game. Take a look at some of the screenshots from the last month as our artists create new environments and locations for our heroes to explore.

All of us are absolutely loving the multiple videos, shorts, and streams you’ve all been creating since the demo came out about six weeks ago and we would be happy to share your content on our Discord page. Join our Discord[discord.gg] if you haven’t already!

We also have started to record developer diary videos on Youtube and did a deep dive into the demo last month. Take a look if you want to learn about the game’s creative vision from the founder and narrative director!
What’s Coming
Watch for updates on all our social media channels! We’re planning to release an expanded demo later this summer that incorporates all the feedback we’ve been receiving so far while also extending the gameplay into parts of Chapter 1. You’ll explore new environments, meet new characters, and get to test out new mechanics that are still under development (like more advanced terrain interactions!).

Let us know if you have any questions, feedback, or ideas for what you’d like to see in the game in the future. We have been so thrilled by all the thoughtful feedback and ideas so far, and will keep doing all we can do to create an amazing experience for you.
