To fix GFWL try these fix from the Dark Souls Hub (Note i edit it to fit to these game the full fix can be found on the source):

The key part is, that you have to turn off "two-step verification" in your Live profile, the old GFWL client doesn't seem to support this new-ish security method implemented by MS, and thus fails to log in correctly.

1. Log in to your Live accout at https://account.live.com
2. On the left panel click on "Security info"
3. Click "Disable two-step verification"
4. If you installed GFWL from DS installer, uninstall it, reboot, install GFWL client from http://www.xbox.com/en-US/LIVE/PC/DownloadClient with compatibility mode set to Windows 8, and run as admin.
5. Set DARKSOULS.exe and DATA.exe in your "DarkSouls\DATA" folder to run as admin and Windows 8 compatibility mode. (only for windows 8 users and above)
6. Set GFWLClient.exe and GFWLive.exe in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games for Windows - LIVE\Client" folder to run as admin and Windows 8 compatibility mode. (only for windows 8 users and above)
7. Copy all dll files and the dll.cat file starting with xlive from C:\Windows\SysWOW64 to C:\Windows\System32 (i assume these is needed only in a 64bit system)
8. Run GFWLClient.exe and log in.
9. Start the game and log in, it should download your profile just fine.

These seem to work for me on Windows 8.1
Hope it helps you guys to get it all set up and ready any problem post below, i hope maybe a Mod can pin these or something to help users find the fixes

Well i do not have a windows 7 that can run the game :/ so cant really test that my self

How ever the GFWL is for all devices if you have a problem with it, and not just windows 8, but you can skip in step 6 (not needed for windows 7)
And if you do not have a 64bit system you can also skip on step 7 i think

If that works or not please do reply, if it dose not il keep searching see if i can find a better fix for windows 7

I don't call copying all the Dll's form C:\Windows\SysWOW64 to C:\Windows\System32 (2000 files) a solution... Come on Devs, fix this one please.

I am on 8.1, Tron Evolution would fail to start up and it didn't give any error. By starting the application directly from its folder, it was giving me an error about xlive.dll, which is from the dead service GFWL. Naturally it isn't installed since it is a dead service... but still Tron clearly expects GFWL to be installed in order to load. I installed GFWL from http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=128962 and everything works.

GFWL is not dead all the way, the games that have it can use it, and that part works, i think also the messenger there work

But it works and will allow to play the game
