Love designing small spaces with gorgeous finishes, furnishings and lighting? Small Spaces is a beautiful game off to a great beginning


This game is in very early access with a lot of stuff planned in the upcoming roadmap. Currently the game has only a few levels to play and no sandbox mode. What is there will give you a few hours of gameplay but much more items and a sandbox mode are needed to add to the experience.

❗ Update - you can now earn enough stars to get all items in the shop. More levels were added to play!

As for gameplay there is some stuff there are levels with clients who have objectives you have to complete to get all the stars for the level. It is not hard to meet the objectives and it still leaves you with plenty of room to play with the designs as there is no budget to work with and your only payment, so to speak, is gaining two stars per level to use in the shop to buy furniture, finishes or modules (architectural elements such as cabinets, stairs, blocks and panels).

I love the furniture, finishes, lighting and materials that are in game at the moment. The lighting options, while limited (especially for wall mounts and no ceiling lighting yet) are gorgeous and well done. I love the feel of how the lights affect the atmosphere of the rooms. Coloured lighting would also be a nice addition if added to the game.


Settings & features include; language, audio controls, graphics (display mode, resolution, frame rate, quality, upscaling, vsync and field of view options.


* Sandbox mode (coming in the future)
* Maybe a way to have challenges or competitions in game with themes and in-game prizes like special items. Let other players tour each others designs and vote. A very far in the future idea for end-game stuff.
* Lots more lighting options for sconces and ceiling. The lighting in this game is so well done


The game is gorgeous and has no AI elements (as stated by the dev who employs a Illustrator and 3D artist on their team). I am really enjoying putting together designs. The only part is the lack of items and elements (but it is early access so I expected to be missing some things). But what you can create so far is pretty impressive.

I am enjoying designing in this game and look forward to a sandbox mode, more elements and items to design with and more lighting options. What is here will give you a few hours of enjoyment to start with but it is early access so some of the most wanted elements are up and coming. 🎨

This game is in great shape for early access! I wanted to mention that off the top because I think we've all been burned by an early access title that was buggy to the point of unplayable, and that is NOT the case here. If you like interior decoration games, this is definitely worth picking up now (which shows the developer support and helps fund further development!)

Pros. Graphics are simple but clean. Lighting is fantastic and I really like that I can cycle through the different settings. UI is clean and functional. LOVE that I can unlock more content by completing builds and earning in-game stars rather than buying a bajillion DLCs. Even though the floorplan is locked and there's less content, I feel like I have more control over my builds than in the Sims 4. LOVE LOVE LOVE how easily everything snaps to surfaces and stays snapped when you move the thing it is on.

Bugs - I've had a few bugs where items I'm trying to place on a lower floor snap to the upper floor, or I try to grab an item from the lower floor and instead move an item on the upper floor. These both happened even when I had the upper floor toggled to invisible, so I'd really love to see a fix where you can't interact with a floor or its items if it is hidden.

Stuff I'd love to see in the future:
1. Ability to keep the light at one setting rather than it always cycling. Again the toggle is great, but the night setting is so dark I can't do anything unless I've already placed a bunch of lights.
2. More content, of course! I'm still unlocking in-game content but I'd love to see more clutter items, curtains, and lighting. Lighting that hangs from the ceiling would be awesome!
3. Would love some keyboard shortcuts. I keep trying to press [ and ] to scale things up and down (iykyk)

Small Spaces is a super-chill decorating game with high-quality graphics, mostly intuitive controls, and plenty of polish. I've sampled more titles in this genre than I care to count or review; this one's special, and feels as satisfying as decorating in The Sims.

✅ Progression. You start with a limited selection of items and two apartments/levels, but gradually unlock new features and a total of nine levels. Each level has a unique floor plan and small story, plus two objectives. The first time you complete the objectives, you earn stars to spend on new furniture, cabinets, modular building blocks, panels, textures, etc.

✅ Graphics + Photo Mode. Some beds glitch when placed, but everything from the furniture to the lighting is generally lovely (nighttime can be annoying due to limited wall- and ceiling-mounted lighting options, but that's what the "skip time" button is for!). The first-person camera lets you walk through the apartment, and photo mode swaps out the UI for a watermark.

✅ Catalog + Customization. I'd love more items in all categories (especially lighting, art options, and rugs), but the existing selection is solid. Most items have built-in color swatches, and can be flipped, scaled up/down, and/or retextured, so it doesn't feel like you're re-using the same assets every time. (Pro tip: Check the artwork swatches!)

✅ Item Placement. There's some jank here: items occasionally try to stack or hover like poltergeists, and placing counters in small spaces can be a challenge. But the gentle gridsnap makes it easy to place items against walls while still giving you enough slack to overlap, rotate, and adjust everything. It's like playing TS4 with the TOOL mod and ALT key.

✅ Cozy Vibes. Between the repetitive lofi music, ambient noises, and sound effects (all of which can be toggled on/off in settings), and slow day-cycle shifts in lighting, and zero-pressure gameplay, everything about this feels relaxing and cozy.

❎ Fiddly. Modifying and placing items occasionally requires a lot of fiddling; sometimes you have to drag an item under the appropriate modify button (e.g. flip or scale) to see a result, or fight an object into the correct place. Items are only deleted with the trash button; tapping the "Delete" key is pointless. As far as I can tell, the only way to change the paint color is to click each half-wall-tile, click the palette, select the swatch, rinse and repeat.

❎ Item Sizes. Yes, you can make things bigger or smaller to a point, but the default sizes of certain items (e.g. bathroom mirrors, toilet paper) feels awkward and wrong in the context of the space. I shouldn't need to shrink every bathroom mirror to balance the room.

❎ Item Categories. Items are organized by Living, Bedroom, Kitchen, etc. This is mostly fine, but I clearly don't organize my life the same way the dev does.

This isn't House Flipper or The Sims; there's no management and no construction. It's also nothing like trying to furnish an awkwardly-shaped tiny apartment in real life; you don't have a budget or landlord, and it doesn't matter if drawers open all the way. Honestly, I kind of want to describe Small Spaces as an Alexandra Gater (YouTube Channel) simulator: all cozy vibes and creative optimization of limited space.

The dev is active on Discord, and has a solid roadmap promising bug fixes, more furniture, and more levels. I'm looking forward to seeing how the game changes between Early Access and final release.
