"Hello, long time SR2020 player here, several thousand hours into it. SRU, is probably a better game for someone just entering the franchise, but I still like SR2020 better.
SR franchise (modern) started with SR2010, then 2020, SR: Cold War, SR: 1936, and now SR: Ultimate, which is a combination of all of them. WWII to 2020 and beyond.
Which ever one you play, you should get many, many, hours/days/years, of gaming enjoyment.
Regarding a dead forum, when SR2020 came out, over 8 years ago, it was not a Steam game, thank god. All of the typed conversations, AARs, ect is over on the developers webpage."

SRU is still supported and so you'll see new updates every now and then. SR2020 is where a lot of the community started off I think.
Why is this? I dont have 2020.
SRU has many improvements to GUI as well as game mechanics. One huge example of a "quality of life" improvement is how Garrisons are handled. To use an extreme example, if you have ever conquered China in SR2020 and then wanted to remove Garrisons it takes a long time, as you must click on each facility/hub and remove them manually.
We often joked that after China falls and we spend the next hour or so removing Garrisons we would take a break from the game to let our hand/wrist recover. In SRU you can now remove Garrisons from an entire Theater with one click on a button, or add them.
The Battle Zone feature is very good also as it allows people who prefer to leave their forces under ai control to fine tune what the ai does much more precisely than in previous versions.
Many tweaks/changes "under the hood".
There are many such things in SRU which probably make it a better overall game, especially for the Steam crowd.
If you like SR2020 I do believe you would enjoy SRU.
I compared why Ithink SRU is a better game, especially for the Steam crowd. I simply prefer SR2020. There is no quantitive reason, it is a matter of preference.
Maybe because I am old, and I dislike change.. or maybe because I miss water or I like the fact that as Supreme Ruler I could set my own DEFCON...*shrugs*
What do you mean with you miss water?
