The Fourcade Expanse doesn't have a fixed history.

It has yours.

Sky Scaffold is set in an isolated region of colonized space — cut off from the Milky Way four centuries ago when the Stretch Band Gate narrowed and went silent, abandoning two million colonists to fend for themselves. In the absence of any central authority, power moved to whoever controlled the systems everyone else needed to survive: communication relays, power grids, atmospheric processors, shipping lanes.

Out of that vacuum, factions emerged. Not designed from the top down — but grown from pressure, ideology, and desperation.

HIGI Loyalists — Hierarkeheigh Inter-Galactic Industries built the infrastructure your colony runs on. They never stopped owning it. HIGI doesn't rule through armies. They rule through firmware. Defy them, and they don't send soldiers — they reclassify you in a database and let the automated systems handle the rest. Their Social Ledger tracks every transaction, debt, and relationship across the Shred. Freedom, in HIGI's accounting, is an unpaid invoice.

The High-Res Synod — A faction born from a disaster caused by a badly summarised document. Station Meridian-6 starved when a 300-page logistics manual was compressed into three lines and critical context was lost. 41,000 people died. The Synod's response: all unverified data is lethal. They demand the raw, uncompressed truth before accepting any claim — and they have the patience of people who've watched compression errors kill entire colonies.

The Archive Keepers — Digital networks are entropic. Data gets "optimised" until the institutional knowledge underneath it disappears. The Keepers rejected digital storage entirely. They etch vellum. They stamp alloy plates. They hand-copy manuscripts in shielded vaults buried in asteroid cores. Slow, deliberate, and extraordinarily difficult to deceive.

The Chorus of the Loop — Born in an 11-year communications blackout that drove a mining station to the edge of extinction — not through violence, but through silence. A foreman named Kael Torrund kept his crew alive by manufacturing noise: invented conflicts, fabricated enemies, screamed into the intercom. It worked. His survivors became evangelists: silence is death, the loop is life. The Chorus doesn't argue with you. They amplify over you.

The Sensation Cults — They exist outside every other faction's framework. They believe the human brain is a rendering engine, post-processing reality to filter out what the nervous system can't survive. The Cults seek to bypass that filter entirely. Some of what they find has driven them insane. Some of it has made them into something that can no longer be described as human. HIGI wrote specific laws to criminalize their existence.

Every trade, contract, piece of gossip, and betrayal generates an entry in the social fabric of the Fourcade Shred; a living record of what happened, who did it, and who remembers.

Agents don't forget. They hold grudges, build alliances, share information, and adjust their behavior based on what you've done and what they've heard you've done. Reputation travels faster than cargo. Power means deciding truth. The Agents don't just look at data or actions you take. They have their own goals and truths.

The faction relationship system tracks each group's disposition toward the player on a scale from hostile to allied — and those scores ripple outward. Improve your standing with an allied faction and their rivals notice. Burn a bridge, and the smoke crosses borders.

At a larger scale, the world tracks aggregate player behavior across all players. Flood the market with alloy and prices collapse. Breach enough contracts and the trade routes dry up. The history of the Shred is written not by a scripted narrative — but by the accumulated weight of every decision every player makes.

The History and Lore Engine is the collective name for these interconnected systems — still being built, but structurally in place:

• The Social Token Grid — a 4x4 interaction system replacing traditional dialogue trees. Relationships are negotiated, not scripted.

• Faction Memory — agents judgeinteractions and share what they know through gossip and reputation networks.

• The Ripple System — faction standing cascades through alliances and rivalries.

• Document-Driven Lore — story delivered through printable in-game documents, not cutscenes. Find rare papers and decode what HIGI doesn't want you to know.

• World-State Events — global triggers that respond to collective player actions, changing market conditions and faction behavior across all saves.

• The Phantom Engine — A mega-matrix data base and brain of history, lore, rumors, artifacts used to update live values in the Fourcade Shred.

• The Extranet Uplink — a terminal like interface in-game or used in a browser or phone to interact directly with the greater systems and send game instructions while you play.

The goal: a world where the lore isn't something you read before playing. It's something you write by playing.
