Do I need to play The VVhispered world to understand the story?
Hello there,

I want to buy this game, I kind of forgot about it like a year ago, but now I saw it on the store page... this is the sequel to The VVhispered world, right? Just asking if I need to play both to understand the story... I don't really want to play the first game because the 4:3 resolution turns me off, plus I can't play a lot these days anyways, so I'd rather play this one...

You dont need. This game has a pretty rich story .

I have the same question to those who own both games. Is playing the whispered world necessary?

(Side note: Why are you using two "V"s to make a "W" OP? You're taking the double vee thing literally :P)

Play The Whispered World instead; it's an infinitely better game.

But to answer the question, Silence summarizes The Whispered World in the prologue, then promptly establishes a new continuity in which the first game hardly matters. So if you're set on playing Silence, playing The Whispered World is not absolutely necessary to the game--and may even lessen your enjoyment as you compare the two games.

Well, thanks for the answer. Just bought the game, maybe it's a bit pricey, but I guess it evens out with TWW, which I got for like less than 1€ :P
Doesn't even matter if it's not as good as the first game, it just has to be good on it's own... maybe I'll go back to TWW if it's that good... it's just... the resolution... it really breaks the immersion for me

Well, I was on my laptop, and the W key is broken on it. Now I'm on my desktop, so I can use Ws, but on the laptop I have to copy paste W all the time :D
And not having a W key really puts things in perspective... W is so overused in English! Maybe it's because there are no Hungarian words containing W (well, except words taken directly from English obviously... like "web" for example) but it's just weird how much it's used! W is overrated!

Fair warning: Silence obviously contains major spoilers for The Whispered World, which ends with a pretty startling plot twist. Just so you know before playing them in the wrong order. ;) What about the resolution bothers you? At least as of the Special Edition, TWW supports modern resolutions as far as I know unless you have some non-standard resolution.

No, it doesn't seem to work for me. I can set the resolution to 1920x1080, but when I start the game it switches back to 640x480 for some reason.

That's really weird. I have no problem playing at 1920x1080. :/ Have you tried troubleshooting the problem with Steam or online?

I tried to do some magic in the config.ini file, but it doesn't do anything... same with other old point & click games by Daedalic, like A New Beginning...

That's a shame. :( Aside from a few bugs in the original Deponia games, I've never had any issues with Daedalic titles.
