You should use a plain text editor (just ASCII text).
On mac you can use TextEdit (Format->Make Plain Text). On windows Notepad, I guess.
If you have problems to change the extensions, you can enable the "show filename extensions" in the Finder's setting panel.

Copy the ExampleKeyMapCustomController.cfg file.
Then right click NNT and show package contents, go in settings, open the folder named with lots of numbers, and paste it in there. Then open that file in Text Edit. Copy what was posted on the PS3 controller mapping section, and save it, but rename it without the word Example.
Done.
Truthfully? We're not sure yet. It's the ideal situation for everyone, but we have a few other things to sort in the meantime.
Luke, in response to gall0ws who recommended Textedit, you said no programs are needed, then go on to say use Textedit?? I really appreciate the help, but I am a total donkey at this kind of stuff. Also what is NNT?
none of the cfg files here or anywhere else i have found are working for me. i have a wired 360 controller on yosemite and all other games seem to work with no problems. am i missing something? i am kinda sick of endlessly googling this and still coming up nada.
hah, good luck with that. i've been trying to get answers to this problem for what seems like forever now. the developers either don't care or think that there aren't enough people affected by this to consider it a real issue. so a paid-for game with "full controller support" sits useless and unplayable. excellent, hey?
I understand where the file needs to be copied but is there a download link for the file KeyMapCustomController.cfg?
This issue came up 5 years ago and still no fix? LOLOLOLOL sorry man, if they haven't bothered by now I guess they just don't care. Too bad because it is still a good game.
Yeah man! I even sent the developer an eMail. Reply: "I ask the dudes…", then… Silence. Meh... :/
