We normally find that when people play the game, they love it. Of course, there are dozens of massively positive YT videos out there, but we can't decide for gamers which they should watch.

Here are a few:

Thank you for reminding me of this video. I wanted to preorder it, but now that I rewatched the video, I think I'll wait for a sale.

They f'ed up the atmosphere of the game completely, that was one of the reasons I loved the original.

Great review, thanks for showing this
There's a huge diference with the art style of the original and the new version. Personally, I do not like the new version's art style and overuse of bloom and camera effects that modern games tend to have. The atmosphere is completely absent in New n Tasty.

That is the Problem of popular/cult things being remade.
It is very difficult to catch the atmosphere & style of a Product and reproduce it.
Michael Bay remaking a Kubrick Movie doesn't make it a better Kubrick Movie.

The sad part is that its not just people out to make money that mess this up.

How many SweetFX modifications for games do we get where the person just has no idea what they are doing; or they just ramp up the saturation or color bias.

Companies think that more bloom is always better.

Consumers think that less bloom is always better.

Both end up getting it wrong most of the time.

Go play the original then.
This thread is pointless.

we will :)
For over-bloom complainers, I'm pretty sure there will be mods to reduce bloom intensity soon enough. (or even some graphic settings)

I mean the controls are going to be practically the same as the original- especially since you can rebind controls. So the game is going to play the same. And there will probably be graphical sliders to remove bloom and that camera filter effect.

And, honestly, the atmosphere of the natural envrionments seems pretty on point with the original. I mean, Paramonia and Monsaic Lines, in particular look amazing.

The only contentious issue is the more sci-fi look of Rupture Farms. But some areas, particularly later in the game, capture the feel of the original well (since the original has strong colours).

His point about the Slig masks makes no sense since the original Sligs do appear in game. They seem more like the elite Sligs than the average pilot mask grunt (which were introduced in Exoddus, not Munch's Oddysee).

I agree with him about the animations and the repition of dialogue can get irritating. The game's certainly more styalised than the original but the remake captures the atmosphere of the original more than this video would make you think.

Also, the bugs and sound issues are going to be addressed in this one. And the ads have been removed.

I dealt pretty well with the new visuals coz it really looks awesome on PS4, but what really pissed me off was the voice acting and sound in general.
Anyway, thanks for sharing this.

I kind of agree with that guy. And wtf with the song at the end of the credit ? It's just horrible.
Drain Feb 10, 2015 @ 12:50pm
Well this guy convinced me not to buy this. I would have reached all the same conclusions he reached and been just as disappointed. What I hate most from watching this is the blurry camera artifacts(why are those there?), lack of D pad controls(wtf?), and the terrible end credits rock music(WHY?). Compare that noisy garbage to the fantastic original ambient music which you can hear at this end of the video.

I suppose if you've never played the original, you'll probably prefer this newer version. But for those of us that were actually born before the PS 1 was released, I think we're just better off dusting off a PS1(or booting up a emultor).

For who Doesn't very happy about the New N tasty remake
i think they call the game New N Tasty For reason
they Add and changed the Game To Make us feel like we play it for the first time
If they Want to just remake it For better grapics
They Would call it Oddworld abe oddysee HD
just like stranger wrath and Munch Oddysee

It IS a remake of the classic game; it doesn't matter what you call it. You're just being semantical. If we're going to do that, I should start complaining about how you use enter instead of periods and spaces, as it's equally irrelevant to the topic at hand. See that space over to the right? You can use that, you know. My posts use it.

Quite frankly, New n' Tasty seems subpar. If they really planned on "reimagining" this game, they should have put the same amount of thought into development that went into the original. Instead of taking the heart and soul of Abe's Oddysee into acount, they slapped on a bunch of fancy textures, 3D models, and glowy light effects, and added on gameplay elements they attributed with "modern game development" without considering the effects it has on the original design. I wish I could say that I would buy this game anyway out of respect for the franchise, but quite frankly I don't want to support a company who's only successes are two buggy HD ports, and a poorly developed remake.

I hope that when it comes around to "reimagining" Abe's Exoddus, that they put more thought and care into the design philosphy and artistic inegrity of the game, so as to make a product that truly lives up to the vision of Oddworld.
