They f'ed up the atmosphere of the game completely, that was one of the reasons I loved the original.
That is the Problem of popular/cult things being remade.
It is very difficult to catch the atmosphere & style of a Product and reproduce it.
Michael Bay remaking a Kubrick Movie doesn't make it a better Kubrick Movie.
How many SweetFX modifications for games do we get where the person just has no idea what they are doing; or they just ramp up the saturation or color bias.
Companies think that more bloom is always better.
Consumers think that less bloom is always better.
Both end up getting it wrong most of the time.
This thread is pointless.
we will :)
And, honestly, the atmosphere of the natural envrionments seems pretty on point with the original. I mean, Paramonia and Monsaic Lines, in particular look amazing.
The only contentious issue is the more sci-fi look of Rupture Farms. But some areas, particularly later in the game, capture the feel of the original well (since the original has strong colours).
His point about the Slig masks makes no sense since the original Sligs do appear in game. They seem more like the elite Sligs than the average pilot mask grunt (which were introduced in Exoddus, not Munch's Oddysee).
I agree with him about the animations and the repition of dialogue can get irritating. The game's certainly more styalised than the original but the remake captures the atmosphere of the original more than this video would make you think.
Also, the bugs and sound issues are going to be addressed in this one. And the ads have been removed.
Anyway, thanks for sharing this.
I suppose if you've never played the original, you'll probably prefer this newer version. But for those of us that were actually born before the PS 1 was released, I think we're just better off dusting off a PS1(or booting up a emultor).
i think they call the game New N Tasty For reason
they Add and changed the Game To Make us feel like we play it for the first time
If they Want to just remake it For better grapics
They Would call it Oddworld abe oddysee HD
just like stranger wrath and Munch Oddysee
I hope that when it comes around to "reimagining" Abe's Exoddus, that they put more thought and care into the design philosphy and artistic inegrity of the game, so as to make a product that truly lives up to the vision of Oddworld.
