Control help and advice
We've seen a few comments recently regarding the controls in New 'n' Tasty and it's not entirely clear in-game how to remap them if necessary.

Hopefully this thread assists.

Struggling with Abe and the controls?

One of the quickest ways to make the controls in New 'n' Tasty a little easier is by switching on the two 'old school' control toggles, which are off by default. These tighten up Abe's movement and make lateral hops much easier to pull off.

Once on, Abe will no longer run without the player pressing the 'run' button, and will hop to the side rather than straight up, making mines easier to leap over and distances easier to judge.

If you go to Options > Controls and tick the "Button To Run" and "Forward Hop" checkboxes, you'll find a much different game to control.

Xbox Controller not functioning properly?

If your Xbox 360 controller isn't working properly in game, ensure its got the latest drivers. Download the latest drivers and follow the info from Microsoft. Additionally, if your Xbox One controller is having issues (especially in Windows 10) after changing the controls in-game to that controller, please do the same.

Re-mapping the controls:

New 'n' Tasty supports in-game remapping for controllers and keyboards.

To remap a controller, ensure the "Input Method" is set to Controller, and then go to "Button Layout" and select "Xbox 360" at the top to bring up a dropdown. From the dropdown, select "Custom" and then remap as needed.

Supported controllers:

New 'n' Tasty officially supports (on Windows) the DualShock 4, Xbox One (wired and wireless, patch incoming) and Xbox 360 (wired and wireless). It also supports the Logitech F310, F510 and F710.

For any others, you will have to remap the controls manually.

Important note:

Please make sure that "Input Method" is set to Controller in the Options > Controls menu. If you don't, although it'll work in menus, in-game it'll expect you to be using the keyboard.

It is very ironic how a PS game is not supported for a PS control.

Yeah and you've made the Steam Controller completely redundant in the process, I can't use it, such a shame when you've made a layout for it.

What controllers are supported on non-Windows OSes? Why is no default controller scheme included for unrecognised controllers? It's not like the differences between controllers is so huge anyway. Leaving it to the end-user is just lazy.

Yeah, except, I don't get that choice. On Linux, it appears it doesn't recognise the controller as an XBox 360 controller, so you have to map every single command manually as all the controller buttons are unmapped.

Hi Nighty, sorry to hear that mate. My OS is windows10,now in my controller menu i can not map any buttons at all. Try this, when you see the keyboard or controller in the menu ,click on controller & in the top left corner you can choose xbox 360,xbox one e.c.t. Thats how i fixed it,works great. Hopfully your OS allows you to? Good luck mate!

Well, that's where I was looking indeed. :)

Neither with the xpad nor the xboxdrv drivers (the latter apparently being the recommended one by the devs) does it give me an option to choose anything other than "Custom".

On the other hand, when I have my Steam Controller turned on, it gets recognised straight away. Too bad it's not really useful as a controller for action games, especially if you got smaller hands. When it detects the Steam Conroller though, I can not enter the controller setup menu to rebind the buttons. The menu entry is just grayed out. But the buttons are mapped, presumably in a sensible manner, and I can control Abe and have him perform actions.

You can either map every control yourself (because shipping a game with some form of default config is clearly too much to ask), or you could check the instructions on https://steamcommunity.com/app/314660/discussions/2/485623406953212192/

Anyone know how to make the triggers work for the ps3 controller?
Gabe Newell Jul 24, 2016 @ 6:22am
I can't seem to use Triggers whilst using a wired Xbox 360 controller. I've read through various threads and still no fix. I'm on windows 7.

Wired Xbox 360 controllers work 'out of the box' on Windows, so it's odd that you're having problems. Official controller? Anything else plugged in that might be conflicting?

Try switching 'one button chant'.

Thanks for the quick response. Yes its an Official Xbox controller. There is only a Mouse and Keyboard connected. I've tried the One Button Chant however that doesn't appear to work either.
