A MUST have! Freeware Global Mesh

Hey everyone. As you know, Freeware is a major part of any gaming community and has been a staple in the FSX community for a long time. The two major areas where there is little to no freeware that has been available has been global vector data (the way that shorelines, roads, and borders are drawn) and global mesh (the topography of the earth and how mountains, valleys, and elevation of terrain are portrayed). Well I am happy to share that the latter has now been made availlable in an amazing freeware package.

Check it out. This is a major upgrade for those of you not already using pricey SRTM addons such as FSPilots Global 2010, Ultimate, or others that are out there.

Will this make it like your flying over Google maps?
The default ground texture looks like a sad attempt to look like Google maps when you have the graphics and texture on max settings.
Have a small single engine Cessna aircraft size airport about a mile from my house and the ground texture looks nothing like the actual area.

Nah, this is the mesh, which is essentially the accuracy of terrain height. There is / was a way to stream google maps in to the game for textures though...

That's the site I am familiar with but how up to date all the information is I can't say. Searching the internet for FSX Tileproxy might be an idea.

A mesh is different from textures. For textures you can try and find photoscenery of your area of interest that makes the ground realistic. There are global enhancement of terrain textures like seasonal color sharpness, roads, grass, snow all for free. Just back up your original files in case you want to revert back. Flyawaysim, simviation, blueskyscenery sites has lots of enhancements you can try
