JustFlight VFR UK Scenery Installation Issues
Having waited 36 hours for my JustFlight VFR Scenery (Vols 1-4) to download, I found a major fault in the setting up the scenery.cfg file in c:\programdata\microsoft\fsx-se\ folder. My existing scenery.cfg was saved as OldScenery.cfg (thankfully) and a NewScenery.cfg created. Unfortunately, none of my existing add-on scenery (that I had spent several days adding) was copied across and only one volume (Vol 3) of VFR scenery added although not correctly setup.

On starting FSX-SE I had 4 DLC error 1007 messages hidden behind the FSX-SE splash screen and impossible to see. The error messages were all the Error 1007 - c:\programdata\microsoft\fsx-se\scenery.cfg Line 846 - Token: [Area.121]. If I were a novice I would be up a creek without a paddle.

I had to correct the 2 address path for the one volume added, add 6 entries for the missing volumes 1, 2 & 4 for the main and mesh folders, copy across the entries for my existing add-on scenery and correct the clashing Area numbers.

I think some more work is required by Steam/DLC/JustFlight on providing a robust installation and scenery.cfg update before more users get caught out.

Hi CML_BOS_1963

I can confirm that once the scenery.cfg is correctly configured the VFR works well and the imagery around the Solent (S England) is well up-to-date. It looks great from above 1000 ft.

There was this thread the other day where some users didn't have the scenery config files updated properly by the installer
http://steamcommunity.com/app/314160/discussions/1/617329150705407438/
might be your problem too?

Thanks Morag I'll take a look at that.

Are there any step by step configuration set ups for this?....thanks.

I am not going into a step-by-step procedure to correctly install for this product. My original point is that Steam, DT and JustFlight need to get this sorted for users who do not have the necessary knowledge and tools to do so.

We are sorry to hear that you are experiencing issues installing the VFR Scenery packs by Just Flight. We have seen a few reports of this from players in the forum and we are working with our partners at Just Flight to address them.

In the meantime you can manually run the VFR Scenery installers if you are encountering an issue. These can be located here:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\FSX\DLC\320986\_DLCConfigData\_InstallDLC.bat

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\FSX\DLC\320987\_DLCConfigData\_InstallDLC.bat

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\FSX\DLC\320988\_DLCConfigData\_InstallDLC.bat

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\FSX\DLC\320989\_DLCConfigData\_InstallDLC.bat

Having run these you should see all 4 packs appear in FSX:SE. There are two entries in the scenery library for each of the packs, this is expected, one for the photo terrain texture and one for the mesh.

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused you and be assured that we are working with Just Flight to attempt to remedy this issue as soon as possible.

If we can help you with anything else relating to FSX:SE please let us know.

@gavin if you start FSX and click on Settings, then on right of screen click on Scenery Library Button you should have 2 entries for each VFR Volume. If they are there at top of page and ticked, click on OK button to exit and a new scenery database will install\generate

When you are back at main Settings Screen click on Customise Button, then Scenery Tab. Then in the Terrain and Water section put every Slider fully over to the right hand side. Also on same page make sure tick is in Land Detail Textures. Ok button again.

Those settings look very good on my girlfriends old comp at 1280x1024, and get a good fps, and its an old quad core 3ghz cpu, before the i3, i5's etc, and a HD6870 graphics card. Think the VFR looks very effective once you get around 1000ft +, i probably could do with a bit of AA to remove jaggies but apart from that i think it looks quite good, especially over countryside.

It currently seems that the installers are not creating the correct scenery.cfg. Individually they work fine however if you have added all four packs to your collection something is going wrong when you attempt to install them in bulk.

We are currently investigating this matter and it would really help us if anyone affected could email our support team with a copy of their Scenery.cfg file. Examining these files will allow us to investigate the matter more quickly.

If you are affected please send your Scenery.cfg file to dtgflightsupport@dovetailgames.com with the subject line “VFR Scenery packs”.

If you have are also running a boxed version of FSX you can find the file here:

C:\Program Data\Microsoft\FSX-SE\Scenery.cfg

If you are just running the Steam version you can find it here:

C:\Program Data\Microsoft\FSX\Scenery.cfg

If FSX: Steam Edition is also showing you any errors messages please can you send us a screenshot or text file of them too.

Thank you for all of your help with this and we of course will update you all with more information as we have it.
