VRS Tacpack not working with new update
Got home today and saw that FSX was updating. That's OK. After it updates I start the game and it says some stuff about Tacpack not being trusted annd then the only thing I can do is close the game. I had arranged to fly with friends tonight but can't due to you seeming to block 3rd Party addons for your game. Really dissapointed.

Sorry, no it hasn't worked.

Each version of TacPack must match the correct version of FSX. Being that FSX:SE just had an update and hence a new version number, we must wait for VRS to update TacPack which could take hours or days.

Any idea on the time frame for VRS to release an update of tacpack and the superbug that works with the new FSXSE update?
mikeytwc Sep 8, 2015 @ 5:21pm
it depends on the complexity of the update, I have requested that DTG reach out to VRS and work out a pre-release example for VRS to work on getting patches wo the superbug and tacpack, but have gotten no response to my query...really aggrevating that DTG isnt at least trying to contact devs

I agree, Mike. Dovetail probably doesn't reach out to VRS because they turned FSX into a combat sim and the majority of FSX users are morally opposed to virtual flight combat so they fly GA and airliners.

Every developer we are partnered with gets invited to take part in a private beta for all updates. Once we have their feedback, and have made any necessary changes, we then offer the update to everyone in a public open beta. You can find details of these in our news section and here on the forum.

Long story short, we go to great lengths to make sure that all updates are available to try by anyone who wants to give them a go before we release them live. In fact this update had two rounds of open beta and developer beta over the last three months.

It is why the team at Orbx had an update of their own lined up and ready to go for players.

Hi Rob, thanks for getting in touch, VRS Tacpack is a third party add-on which is independent of FSX: SE. For all help and advice about using that particular add-on please contact their development team directly via their website - http://www.vrsimulations.com/tacpack.htm

Thanks again for letting us know about this and if we can help you with anything else FSX: SE related please let us know.

- Martin

hey martin, thanks for the reply, as always I look forward to your repliues to my queries.
I hope you didnt find my post argumentative, as that was not the intention of my post.
Are your dev partners the only ones who you send notice of the upcoming beta, or do you send notification to all devs who you have listed as known devs?? I know its not possible to know every single dev, and it would be unreasonable for us to believe you should.

again thanks for all you do to assisst us, the community in making FSX what it should have been years ago...I believe we all appreciate the efforts of DTG.

I just went through a week of having my Tackpac fix from a bug thats in the new version. One of the tech support top people help me solve the issue while he was on vacation. VERY generous thing to do in his personal time. The very next day Sept 8 . the updat forced the tackpac to stop again after all that time solving the problem. Now one of the things that interesting is that i Decline to go through with the udate, still shows the old version but some of the update did enough to make Tackpac not run.

That isn't true regarding FSX users not wanting combat in FSX.

I would say the majority of people posting on the steam forums are either GA or virtual airline fliers. The guys that want to use tacpack and fly fighter jets are in a separate community with their virtual carrier wing or virtual squadron that's not on the steam forums. Most of the virtual wings that use tacpack are FSX: Acceleration and haven't migrated to steam edition. There could be a lot of people that use tacpack with FSXSE, they just aren't on the steam forums representing the demographic.
Look at all the videos and screen shots and tell me what you see. It's a bunch of ILS approaches in airliners and tutorials on how to fly GA airplanes.

I don't think you will find that many "morally" opposed to combat - I used Combat flight Simulator for that fix when I needed it, or DCS or a handful other other combat orientated - I just like GA and practicing "real" flight vice flying I will never be able to do in a combat simulator. So why bring combat into a civilian GA Commercial Aviation Simulator when other better adapted solutions exist for the combat crowd. I tould be akin to putting an A2A Commanche into DCS to shoot ILS approches in Battle of Britian 2 - just doesn't fit.

Just a hint guys....FSX: SE is GSX Acceleration. Yes most are using either for GA or virtual airlines currently. But that is because tacpak came so late in the process.

Having tacpak available increases the market share for FSX...a genre that needs all the help it can get these days. Nothing like having real world to fly in as opposed to just a patch of fictionlized land. FSX offers just that...the ability to off air combat pretty much anywhere.
