%appdata%\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX\dll.xml corrupt
All of a sudden today, when I load FSX: SE, ASNext complains that my dll.xml file needs to be fixed or deleted. In PMDG forum and others, I learned that this file is needed to load .dll files. All other add-ons that require dll files don't work either--they did last time I used FXW: SE yesterday.

When I try to load the dll.xml with the following programs, I get the following results:

notepad.exe -- blank page/empty file

XML Notepad 2007.exe -- won't load; get the message, "C:\Users\[my user ID]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX\dll.xml'.'hexadecimal value0x00, is an invalid character. Line 1, position 1.

Would you like to open it using Notepad? <---See above...

Notepad++ -- the file loads, but is just a string of [nul] characters. Indicating that there's nothing there.

Anyone know how to repair/recreate this file, short of a complete reinstall of FSX: SE?

Thanks!

from flight1 software, you may try this and see if it can repair/recover your dll.xml file

There is another copy of it in the SDK folder in your Steam\FSX .

Well, that didn't work...

The "original" dll.xml was pretty much toast (i.e., empty and or corrupted so as to be unrecognizable to the FSXML program. When I tried to EXTRACT the sections, there were no sections extracted.

In researching the ...\FSX folder where dll.xml resides, I found an older version named "dll.xml.ASbackup". I fussed with that file and finally got it to read into the FSXML, XML Notepad 2007 and Notepad++ programs. There are some sections listed there, but I'm sure it's incomplete--it just looks too sparesly populated with add-on names and folders.

Since ASNext was the first and most obvious "complainer" each time I start FSX (it tells me the dll.xml file needs to be fixed or deleted each time), I unistalled and reinstalled it. ASN still says dll.xml is corrupt and shuts down.

Any more suggestions?

Thanks in advance for any and all help!

Oh... I'll look there...

I found several dll.xml files in various folders there, but they all are only 1KB in size and appear to be "skeletons". I may be wrong in this assessment--I am in previously unexplored territory...
