Area 51 Add-Ons compatibility?
Hey all,

I'm looking at picking up a couple of Military add-ons by Area 51 particularly Carrier strike force as well as a couple of the flight deck add-ons

http://www.area51sim.com/airplanes/area51-carrier-strike-force.html

Does anyone know if these are compatible with fsx steam?..if not can anyone recommend any other cold war or modern carrier based add-ons that are compatible?

Cheers

Simon

Looks quite good, but I have never tried it.

Instead I use AICarriers2 which I can say is excellent and free.

This is the .NET version which replaced the old Java version which doesn't work anymore.

Click on the DOWNLOAD link for more information and the actual download.

I am using the manual install version and do NOT use the automatic run which uses an .xml file.

Installation is very easy.

I just put an icon for AICarriers on the taskbar to start the program.

Otherwise you have to shut it down independently which can become troublesome.

Usually if they say that they are compatible with FSX then they are compatible with Steam FSX but there is no guarantee that this is the case.

Thanks for the info re AICarriers2 Erazer!

Most of my sim time is spent on the Project Strike Fighters 2 series by thirdwire. I'm aware of the freeware that's available for that but limited in my knowledge of FSX freeware so thanks for the heads up!

I may just take the plunge and try one of the Area 51 downloads as well and see what happens...If i do ill post my experience!!

Thanks again :)

You're very welcome Simon, It will be interesting to hear of your experiences.

With AICarriers2 you have to bring up the action menu with Shift + J and then you just press 0 to see the array of different carrier combinations.

I fly variants of F-18 to the two carriers, and I also use Dino Cattaneo's T-45 US NAVY trainer when the carrier is being used purely for training. Neat little jet.

I just had to alter the aircraft configuration file to give me just the camera views I like as I am not into fancy cinema shots.

This might be of interest:

Especially useful for fighter aircraft, carriers and for helicopter slingload and winch operations.
