Recommend Piper Warrior III please
I'm starting lessons IRL on a PA-28-161. It'd be great if I can do a bit simming at home using the same plane. Can anyone suggest a good add-on? It doesn't have to be free.

(Not sure if it's Warrior II or III :P)

The airplane that I would recommend is the payware A2A Cherokee 180. I know it's not the same as the PA-28-161, but the techiques for flying it are so similar it probably won't be detrimental to your flight training, but I'm not a CFI.

I also trained for my license in a Piper Cherokee Warrior and took my check ride in the same airplane that I flew most of the time (not easy when you belong to a flight club).

For realism and function I think that the A2A Cherokee is the best I've seen.

Check it out and see what you think. :steamhappy:

Note that using home flight sims for anything but familiarization(And pre-flight checks, checklists and workflows in A2A's case) during initial training might be dangerous, if they failed to model any of the finer points of the flight and system model and allowed you to get away with things you wouldn't be able to get away with in real life, even for advanced and otherwise really good addons like those from A2A.

One example would be stall and spin during base-to-final turn due to speed decay and rudder use in an attempt to improve turn rate, which would kill you in real life but is not modeled very well in most aircrafts including addons for all I know - You could spin and crash in A2A ones but I cannot verify the accuracy of such behavior, since it's outside the envelope and flight simulation modeling in general does not do well there.

But yeah, A2A's PA28 is what I'd recommend if all you want is familiarization, or some virtual weekend fun after you get familiar with the real aircraft.

I guess familiarization is the word indeed. For now I mostly want to learn the panel - where every gauge / switch is etc. It'd be nice too if the engine operation is well modelled.

A2A's engine operation is supposedly very well-modeled - But yeah, you may wish to find a couple videos and reviews first, as those panels may be different between models.
