Logitech Extreme 3D Pro - problem assigning buttons
I'm finding it impossible to assign aileron trim settings to specific buttons on my Logitech Extreme 3D Pro joystick. Using the controls menu it seems as if the buttons are coorrectly registered but when actually flying they do nothing. Curiously, only one of the default buttons on my numeric pad seems to work, too - only one of the default buttons seems to do anything,

Would it be worth wiping and then reloading the simulator from scratch ( a last resort, I realise) or has anyone got a way around this problem?

All help gratefully received!

I don't think you'll need to re-install.

You could try running a files integrity check on FSX SE and see if that helps.

The 3d pro doesn't come with or require a Logitech supplied driver, it uses the Windows HID driver. You can check to see if it's working properly by opening the control panel.....

Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers

Under devices you'll see your 3d pro, right click it and popup window will open with several options including Game Controller Settings, Troubleshoot, and Properties. Try running thru those to see if you can find and/or fix any potential problems.

The other thing to bear in mind is the aircraft you're flying has to support Aileron trim in the first place or obviously it won't work. The default Baron is an example of an AC that supports trim in all three axis, rudder, aileron, and elevator.

Many thanks, Pegasus and shufordsc - much appreciated! I'll try Game Controller Settings route first as that seems the easier option and then work on it from there, following the other tips.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

As simple as it may sound, be sure the AC you are flying supports aileron trim control.
Thanks, I'm following the tuition course using a Cessna 172 so the trim function is an important element in one of the lessons.

I ran through the suggested steps and found no obvious problems with file verifation. Also, the diagnostics under Device Manager checked out - the Logitech is recognised and various buttns all appear to be working.

Assuming I'd be stuck back where I started after that, I ran FSX again and bingo! This time buttons worked and I have no idea why.

Thanks very much for the help. Something worked, even if I hve no idea what it was!
