i would like to know this aswell :)
FSX will be difficult, the programming cant sort gauges/effects/simobjects automatically if you download a workshop aircraft.
Steam workshop is created for simple games, with an addon folder, not for simulations where you have to install files into several sub folders,

Workshop would work if Steam DLCs worked.

However, whether there would be a good reason for it to exist or not would be another thing. FSX addon scene is already pretty mature and ingrained after 9 years plus more if we count converted FS8/9 addons, and is pretty much the only place where paid addons are considered norm.
a good example where steamwork shop would easily work is the freeware available here http://www.rikoooo.com/, they have made simple installers which install directly into the fsx directory / sim objects sub directory, steam workshop is more than capable of doing the same thing, it would also save huge ammounts of server / file hosting costs, which i really think is the big issue here, its not that steam workshop is un-usable its that a lot of sites make money from offering faster downloads via premiums etc and no one wants to loose out on there easy dosh
An X-Plane 10 workshop would be very possible though.
whikle everyone thinks it would be nice, there are no plans to include workshop access for FSX, perhaps with the new flight sim from DTG, but not FSX
They like selling mods for ridiculous prices. There will be no workshop.

This is what concerns me. Microsoft doesn't have the greatest reputation in regards to pricing, but hopefully it is either technical or something they will consider down the line.

I really do not see how they benefit by having only mods that players install manually. Players that want to install manually will do so, and any players interested in pirating their stuff (DLC, the game, or otherwise) probably already know how to do so well.

All Steam Workshop does is allow players to access the same mods more easily and safely, the latter posibly cutting down on their troubleshooting requests.

Hopefully that is not the reason why. In any case, I very much hope that they will at least consider an attempt in the future.

If that's what their thinking, I doubt it is working as well as they think / currently expect. I just hope this isn't the case.

So do I. So do I
By encouraging people to go to other websites, they run the risk that some of these websites will have pirated DLC. People that wouldn't otherwise have gone to these sites, except that they want mods, now have an increased chance of coming across pirated content that they weren't even looking for in the first place, thus recruiting more pirates. It would be much better if they just had the Steam Workshop, where they can closely moniter the types of mods people post instead of looking at random websites on the web that they cannot directly control. I mean yes, they could have the site shutdown after legal proceedings if they were advocating or neglecting to protect against piracy. By the time they are done, the damage is already done. Just let people put mods on Steam, where they can take down any problematic content right away and easily.

Idk if this is their mindset or not, but it would be tragic for all involved (save maybe the pirates) if this was their thinking.

i agree. that is much piracy safer....
So, basically, the publishers don't have the rights from Microsoft.
