FTX Trees HD Add-On [Official]
This is the official discussion thread for all things related to the FSX: Steam Edition add-on FTX Trees HD by Orbx.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/379565/

FTX Trees HD is a complete overhaul of FSX: Steam Edition’s auto-generated tree textures, lending new immersion to your flight simulation experience!

Developed for ORBX by Scott Armstrong, these tree textures are double the resolution of default trees, resulting in greater detail, and are derived from high-resolution photographs of real trees for maximum realism. They have been hand-edited and colour-matched to give a top-quality flight sim experience. New, optimized tree models reduce the burden on your system when flying over most dense-tree areas, with a negligible change in VAS compared to the default.

Low-level flying takes on a new sense of realism that truly must be seen to be believed; skimming over treetops, over forests and along rivers has never felt so real! Your favourite airports will see a major upgrade too, as the surrounding vegetation takes on a new lifelike appearance. Airliner pilots also benefit, as approaches, departures and taxiing will be greatly enhanced by more realistic vegetation.

Whether you are new to flight simulation and upgrading FSX: Steam Edition for the first time or are a seasoned veteran, FTX Trees HD is designed for maximum compatibility and will upgrade all of your auto-generated trees worldwide.

How do we know if it is installed correctly? Steam says it's installed, but i don't see anything in add-ons. And i don't think trees have changed either?

No support for this add-on?

In Steam, click on "Library" in the top menu bar and then select MSFSX:SE on the list of games to the left. Do you see the add-on checked and marked as 'Installed" in main window under "DLC"?

+1 how to make sure it is properly installed?

If you have any other ORBX products you may have to enable them via the ORBX FTX Central. I don't know what documentation is supplied by Steam, but the ORBX version user guide can be obtained from the bottom of this page: https://www.fullterrain.com/product/ftxtreeshd

EDIT: Unless they got around that requirement, a bit of clarification from DTG wouldn't go amiss :)

I tried installing FTX Central 2, but it does'nt recognize any steam addon installs...

If you needed FTX Central 2 it would already have been installed with your other ORBX product (assuming it was up to date). This product doesn't require it otherwise.

Is it supposed to show in the under menu bar "Add-ons"?

There is no need to install any additional software or do anything other than download the add-on from Steam. You can check that it is installed using technique described by BF Bullpup.

The effects of the pack will be most notable in large woodland areas.

Tune in a bit of transparency supersampling or 2x2 supersampling in Nvidia Inspector, or a bit of DSR if available in Nvidial control panel if you have a Nvidia card. That would make quite a bit of difference.

This add-on definitely works. I can see the difference by loading a free flight parked right in front of some trees with it enabled and with it not enabled. It doesn't make the trees look great close-up, but it makes them look better from the distance. Even close up, it is still an improvement over the default trees. I definitely recommend getting it with it being 55% off and all.
