Diamond DA20-100 Katana 4X Add-On [Official]
This is the official discussion thread for all things related to the FSX: Steam Edition add-on Diamond DA20-100 Katana 4X by Aerosoft GmbH.

Aerosoft’s Diamond DA20-100 Katana 4X is proof of the old saying ’what looks good, flies good’. The Katana is a cutting-edge GA aircraft made out of fibre-reinforced composites. Originally designed to be a training aircraft, it is primarily used by private pilots who enjoy the wonderful flight dynamics and its economical running costs.

The FSX: Steam Edition version of the DA20 gives you the full owner’s experience as you do the maintenance and cleaning, and even decide what type of oil to use.

The DA20 for FSX: Steam Edition comes with three modes:

Realistic - Wear and damage can be encountered and will be stored. Fluids will be used and the aircraft can get dirty. Maintenance and services are available. Flight hours and landings will be counted and special features unlocked.

Simple - No wear and damage will be simulated. Aircraft stays clean. Flight hours and landings are not locked. No special features.

Instructor - Aircraft is as new every reload. Wear and damage can be encountered or be triggered, but will not be stored. Fluids will be used and the aircraft can get dirty. Flight hours and landings will not be counted and no special features are available. Instructor Panels are available.

Additionally, the airframe is fully operational with canopy animations including opening cowling, fuel tank covers and oil access doors, wear and tear, and your aircraft can also get dirty as you fly.

The level of realism in the Rotax 9125 engine is more than ample. You can even hand start the engine via the prop! The Katana is equipped with state-of-the-art avionics, as well as a fully simulated carburettor and fuel system.

This, combined with both sound and visual effects (every operational switch has its own sound), makes Aerosoft’s Diamond DA20-100 4X a shining addition to your FSX: Steam Edition fleet.

A nice aircraft! I have waited it in steam for a long days!
This is crashing FSX to desktop when opening the kneeboard. Anyone else getting this propblem?
I can't seem to control the movement of this aircraft - at least, not on the ground. It won't turn for me. :( It does respond to the throttle lever on my joystick, but not anything else. Yet all other aircraft, both default and add-ons, recognise my joystick just fine. It also doesn't recognise my mouse or even arrow keys if I try to use those (as a last resort) to turn on the ground. It doesn't have pushback either. Shift P gets no response with it.

Also, every time I turn the engine on, smoke billows out the front. I have tried repairing the engine, repairing the magnetos, repairing the propeller and replacing the oil, but nothing is making any difference. It still smokes like a chimney every time I start the engine (at least some keyboard commands are recognised). I'm at my wit's end trying to figure out what the problem is. The engine seems to run great though.

I love the idea behind this plane, and think it's quite cool to have to fuel it up and do proper pre-flight checks etc., but all those extra bells and whistles are not much use if you can't do pushbacks or turn the plane, or other basic functions like that. And if it won't turn on the ground, presumably it won't turn in the air either.

I've tried to fiddle with the settings, but that doesn't seem to make a blind bit of difference. Most frustrating, because it would be pretty awesome if it would only work properly, and I really like the other DIamond, the DA40, which is up there with my most favourite add-on light planes.
DA20 had a free castoring nosewheel and there's no linkage between rudder pedal and it - Use differential brake to turn, and make sure control lock is released. Read manual for more info.

There's a towbar built into the addon, but at least on mine, it's bugged(EDIT: Instead of towing the plane around, it will send it flying as if launched by a giant slingshot if pushed - Experiment yourself). Not a huge loss as it still flies well.

That smoke does sound odd. Make sure you didn't accidentally turn on smoke in FSX. The default keybinding is I.

Other then a nasty cosmetic bug. its an amazing aircraft. been flying it almost exclusivly lately.
Dev team, what the hell is wrong with this plane? Have any of you even seen the real Katana or flown it? How can you expect to replicate the real thing if you don't know how the real plane behaves? I am currently flying your version and the real thing and they behave completely differently. I know this because I am flying the same airports, same conditions, same wind direction and wind speed and the results between your Katana and the real Katana are worlds apart. The only similarity is the sound and the visuals.

Firstly, your plane ALWAYS wants to pitch up. When fllying the real thing, I might use a little trim here and there but on your version, I need so much down trim that I may aswell use full and constant input on the elevator. Secondly, the down elevator won't even respond. Just to land the thing I need so my down pitch (elevator and trim) that by the time it starts finally pitching down, there is no way to life the nose again to land on the runway.

If you are going to charge this much for an addon, at least make sure the basic mechanics are in place first and they are reasonably accurate. Sure your plane is pretty, and the detail is impressive, but what the hell is the point in all that if you cannot even fly it or even worse, if it is nothing at all like the real plane??????

Please fix this!

not sure what you are on about. check your realism settings first off.
I've checked this and its on realistic but there is nothing wrong with the plane (that I can see anyway). Is there a way to reset the plane?

delete and reinstall the addon.. or use the repair function in the 4X Menu
