REX Soft Clouds Add-On [Official]
This is the official discussion thread for all things related to the FSX: Steam Edition add-on REX Soft Clouds by REX Game Studios.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/379558

REX Soft Clouds is a volumetric-like soft cloud texture add-on for FSX:Steam Edition, designed to give a true volumetric feel to clouds and recreate the experience of volumetric haze and fog.

REX Soft Clouds is tailored to low and high-end systems alike and is accessible through Steam via the Tools menu in the Steam client. In order to use Soft Clouds, first run the tool and set your preferences, then close the tool and run FSX: Steam Edition.

Please note REX Soft Clouds 4 will automatically install on your C:\ drive. If you have FSX: Steam Edition installed elsewhere, please visit

for instructions on how to move your textures to your preferred drive.

I can't use the tool. When I start it there is a error. Microsoft .NET Framework Could not load file or assembly 'System.Data.SQLite, Please help because I bought it in October and it has never worked for me.

I am getting the same error. Bought it last week, no luck getting the Configuration Tool to launch. Any help highly appreciated!

When you say you can't get it to launch do you mean you ain't got a icon to launch it from or you have the icon but it won't do anything

I have a shortcut on the desktop, it starts launching the configurator, loading bar fills up, then when the menue is supposed to appear i get a "Microsoft .NET Framework Could not load file or assembly 'System.Data.SQLite" error and only the top and bottom bars of the configurator (I guess), but the middle of the window where you can actualy do things is missing. Then shortly after the program crashes to desktop.

FWIW the steam library with FSXSE is not on my C drive

I did not get the error with REX Soft Clouds but I got it trying to install REX4 Texture Direct.

After some trial and error below is what I did to get REX4 Config Tool to run. Hopefully this will also work for you with Soft Clouds.

1. Went to 'Library/Tools', right-click on the add-on and selected Delete Local Content.
2. Went to 'Library/Games', and un-checked the add-on to uninstall it.
3. Exit ans restarted Steam.
4. Checked the add-on box to download it again in 'Library/Games'
5. Finished the installation in 'Library/Tools'. I installed it in the default 'C:\Program Files (x86) folder.

That actually worked. Thanks a ton!

Awesome! Glad it worked for you too. Enjoy the clouds.

Go to Library-->Tools in the Steam application. Install and run the FSX REX 4 Tool.

I have installed this DLC, uninstalled it, re-installed it with a fresh download of FSXSE - everything appears to be in the correct locations but there is no visible diference to clouds. I stiil have my original FSX CD DeLuxe Edition on another computer and the clouds are identical.
Can any body suggest things to try - I would prefer not to have to re-install FSXSE again due to the time-consuming reloading of ORBX etc.?

How high are you flying? I beleive Soft Clouds are low-mid altitude clouds. You should notice a difference. Try changing the weather and check if you notice a difference.

Thanks for your input! Appears to be working when I minimise config tool to taskbar after starting FSX rather than clicking OK and then starting FSX - also keeps deleting the scenery and texture folders from Addon Scenery resulting in "Area 126" error.

Do I need the REX 4 DLC in order for this to work?

No they are separate and do different things. Combining them is optimal, though.
