Moving Map Add On (V1.0.6) - No Map Detail.
Since the apparent update of the Dovetail Moving Map Add On to Street Maps 2020 I have found that the Add on, which loads apparently as normal, now has no map terrain detail at all in either map selection. So, in Street Map Mode I get black land mass with yellow perimeter markings and dark blue water areas. If I click on Street Maps then all land/sea detail disappears. If I change to Height Map mode I see a blurred edge green land mass with yellow perimeter borders and the same dark blue water area colouring. I do see airport detail but only runways with no taxiways or parking areas and I also nav aids (VOR, NDB, ILS feathers etc), airways low and high, air space areas are also boundaried. Map zoom function works correctly.

I have been into settings and reloaded the Nav Data and that has made no difference.

Anyone got a clue what is happening here? I would appreciate any advice. As a VFR flyer lack of map detail is not helpful :steamfacepalm:

Same here.......I have my aircraft centered on a gray map screen. If I go to height map I couldn't tell you what they are trying to portray---greens and yellows with most ?landmasses? labeled USA. I'm also flying VFR so feel your pain. Does Dovetail read these posts??

Dovetail no longer have anything to do with FSX-SE, Microsoft have taken it back under their wing.

In any case the DLC are in the majority those of third party developers and were never directly developed by Dovetail.

If you're looking for a couple of nice map applications the following may assist.

Mapping Tools and Flight Planners:
Lets face it, the standard flight planner built into FSX-SE might have been OK back in the day, however nowadays there are much much better alternatives.

Enter G-Plan and Little Nav Map, both are flight planning and mapping tools that can be used to build, save and export a flight plan, as well as also display as a moving map showing your own and AI aircraft on their main map display.

I didn't realise what I was missing till I began using these tools, either are a must have item.

I have used Plan-G for flight planning for some time, but was not aware that it could also be used as a moving map. Once the connection to FSX is set up (found that now), how does one call that up in-flight?

I have three monitors, maps on left, P3D in middle (in DSR mode @ 30Hz), Active Sky Next and various other windows on the right e.g. Steam, web browser, music player, monitoring software etc.

In P3D itself I typically have the GTN750 installed into the aircraft or as a popup, and the GTN features a moving map, it's same as what I had configured for FSX-SE.

GTN 750 installed into the Ant Tecnam.

So you're indicating that the Plan-G map simply replaces the default one in the GPS? Most of my planes have the G1000 and/or G500.

err, no, not at all. The mapping apps are completely separate to the GTN.

The GTN750 is a fully fledged unit and it actually runs the Garmin GTN Trainer software so you end up with almost an actual Garmin GTN750 integrated into FSX/P3D.

Most GA planes include the option to install it directly in the dash, and for those that do not the unit can be assigned in a popup style.

Have a look at this vid, in it I startup the GTN, select a flight plan, disable TAWS (because it is so annoying at times) and switch to map. The flight plan itself was generated from Little Nav Map.

So, to use the moving map from Plan-G, I have to get, install, and learn the GTN750?

Not at all, the GTN and GPlan are totally separate apps and have nothing to do with each other.

If you are talking about GPlan somehow displaying a map inside of the sim, then that's not going to happen. GPlan and Little Nav Map are both applications that operate outside of the sim.

I have the GTN inside the sim for the simple reason of I like it, but I don't need it to have GPlan or Little Nav Map display a moving map.

To have an operational moving map on GPlan just connect GPlan to the sim.

On P3D and FSX GPlan will use sim connect so make sure you have all the sim connects installed.

Options -> FS Connection for configuration and there should be a button on the toolbar for connect/disconnect. Have a read of the help docs for the info, section 17 should have all the good info.

Cheers

Sooooo Dovetail will sell a product like Moving Map as a DLC but when it goes tits-up they won't/can't fix it?? It's not working and I want my money back - how do I do that???

I learned the hard way -- they have a "2-hour playtime" time window for refunds - even if that 2 hours does not include use of the challenged addon.

Your best path is to try to contact the author/designer/producer of the addon in question and request support directly.

2 hours is better than what Steam used to have - which is none.

And yes better to buy outside of Steam in reality.

You can thank the Australian ACCC (Australian Competition and Consumer Commission) for forcing Steam to offer refunds.
