In the schema of things it's a less than $20.00 USD addin and Software goes stale and out of date and then breaks all the time - even the so called mighty Windows 10 is only good for 2 years of support before Microsoft stop providing for that version of Win10 and force an update.
And that update is either - yes your machine is new enough to support a new Windows 10 update, or bad luck - buy a new machine.
What about asking the developer for support?
And what is actually the problem? maybe it is Open Street Maps that's changed.
You could update to the full version sold outside of Steam, you've obviously tried the trial and know it works, but that is an approx. $66.00 USD purchase - still far far cheaper than some ill advised court case though.
Or you could use one of the free map tools that also provide a moving map and more.
Check out this thread, some links to free and shareware well supported mapping applications.

Looks like version 1.0.6 is waay back in 2016 and there has been some 99 new versions released since, sounds like time to update...
Version 1.4.11, released on January 12, 2020
Learned the hard way myself that if you buy from Steam, the version is often cut down, or parts are missing due to licensing distribution issues, plus what you buy is DRM'd to Steam so if you want to move to another sim (e.g. FSX-SE to P3D) taking your DLC with you is a no go and there is no upgrade path.
