Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition

No add ons installing in my FSX...
I keep trying various things, yet I keep gettting told there is no valid FSX installed, I don't know what to do anymroe, why does everyone else seem to mostly have things work, but I can't even get mine installed? I've uninstalled FSX, I've deleted it from the registry, I've installed SimConnect, several times, yet nothing will accept FSX steam edition as a legit copy. What's left to do??

Nothing. you have to wait till the mod updates to support the steam edition which could be never :P

How is it that other people can get their add ons working and I can't???

They are using mods that have been updated

But PMDG has not been updated and I have seen that they work.

PMDG is coded differently and consider how it is almost 100 bucks for one plane. The reason the addons dont work is because it cant find the fsx file from the boxed version so when you install it, its installs but incorrectly . FSX steam edition is different from the boxed version so it fails untill the mod author updates its for the steam edition.

Some addons work and others do not, you just have to try your luck for now.

are you pointing your addons to the correct location for the steam version of FSX? All my addons I have tried work fine but most have needed to be pointed to FSX directory...

mine is as follows but yours may be different as I dont know the drive letter.

F:\Steam\SteamApps\common\FSX
try an addon and when asked where to instal direct to your FSX and most are fine...

Most of my addons that i use for my virtual airlines are not working so I feel you bro
The only thing that seems to work are the textures for the default planes (rofl)

Any of the add ons that automatically look for an FSX location will quit the installation saying there is no valid FSX installed. If I could somehow get these to actually find FSX, all would be well.

How do your add ons deal with the real fx when its on another drive? Surely they don't install everything to c drive?
Tyrion Dec 24, 2014 @ 8:39am
They find it ok I think if I remember it correctly, they just wil not accept steam edition as legit.

Dont suppose you could copy the files from the real fsx install, using the same file structure. I've had success with that in the past. We used to do that so we would know exactly what files were going on our system. Install to temp folder. I don't know why an add on that you PAID for gives two rats ass whether you have a fsx install or not.

Don't know either, but PMDG will at least be updating their installers.

You may have removed FSX, but the Registry entry for FSX Steam remains the same! You will need to edit the Registry entry for FSX Steam to remove the " - steam edition" from the key's name.

If you aren't comfortable with doing this simple Registry edit, then uninstall FSX:SE and reinstall so it will create a new and compatible Registry entry.

No it isn't. And no you won't. Read the change log. You.ll see what they changed from the box version. Fs file structure is quite manegable. I've been doing this since fs98
