I have not played with the settings... I just removed it until I hear officially that it will be supported.
If you see a model but no textures, there are two reasons why it is so. Open your FSX main folder, then SimObjects, Airplanes and finally the plane you have installed.
First check the Aircraft.cfg. You can open it with the normal Windows-Editor. Search the plane under the [fltsim.XX] entries, and compare the texture= entry with the „texture.“ folder names. For example:
The aircraft.cfg entry for the plane is:
[fltsim.2]
title=Cessna Grand Caravan Blue White
…
texture=bluewhite
Now take a look to the texture folders of the installed aircraft. If there is an folder named texture.bluewhite, try the second step:
Convert the textures in the texture folder. I recommend a tool like DXT-BMP, available here:
http://www.mwgfx.co.uk/programs/dxtbmp.htm
Convert the textures to the DDS format, and it should work.
Have a look here, I have downloaded all the current British Airways fleet with flight models here...
They work with FSX-SE
Thanks man!! God bless you!
This works great. I tried a few freeware planes and they all seem to have the same problem.
I coverted the textures using the DXT5 format. I presume this is the right one. DXT-BMP gives a few options like DXT1,DXT3,DXT5 and another with no aplha.
How do comercial plane skins acquire that metalic reflection quality to their models?
Forgive the dumb question, I'm brand new to the whole FSX modding scene.
Anyway thanks for the tip regarding DXT-BMP, At least I can now tinker around with a planes not included in the main package.
Steam workshop support for this sim would be awesome.
But there are some models that don't work at all. When selecting the aircraft they don't appear at all for selection. http://simviation.com/1/download-file?file=flydubai738x.zip&fileId=38247
Anyone could suggest how to bypass this issue please?
Do you mean they are not listed, or there is no image of the aircraft shown?
FS9 aircraft do not show in the aircraft selection interface of FSX-SE because they did not have a thumbnail image included, which is what you see in the FSX selection interface.
Usually, the aircraft will be a listed, but instead of showing the aircraft there will be a non-photographic image of a helicopter in its place.
To fix that, take a screenshot for each texture included, and then crop it in photoshop or some photo utility in a similar manner to what you see for other aircraft, and size it at 256 x 128 pixels. Save the image as thumbnail.jpg, and place it in the corresponding texture folder.
Repeat for each texture set for that aircraft.
Hope this helps
