Playing with mouse and keyboard possible?
hi,

i know, it is a simulation and a joystick would be the optimal way to play this. but i am physically handycapped and can only use mouse and keyboard. is it possible to play only in this way and have some fun? can i steer the planes with the mouse like in the casual f2p version?

thanks for answers.

regards,
stefan

Yes of course you will having a good time playing this SIM. It is much more easier to fly with mouse than keyboard. Control the aileron and elevator with mouse, and let keyboard do the rest.

thank you very much.

Yes, it is possible, but very limited in controls. We are talking about a simulator not just a game, so for a better experience strongly recommend you to buy a Joystick. Take a look on that Saitek Cyborg V1, it's really affordable and has nice features for your control your aircraft, as rudder control, throttle lever, five buttons etc.

Dude, Logitech Extreme 3D Pro Flight Stick @ BestBuy $27.00. I wouldn't waste my time with K&M.

Or you can use X-Box one controller IF you have one

thanks for your advices, but because of my handicap, it is impossible to use joysticks and x-box controller.

Is there ANY type of controller that you can use?

I'm a licensed private pilot and the keyboard and mouse is even hard for me to use with FSX.

I've tested a Thrustmaster steering wheel from my son's PS3 console (has a PC switch) and it worked great. Had to program a couple of keys (throttle, etc.) but that's easy in the settings page.

Next I tried a Gigaware universal controller (USB model) that I bought on clearance from Radio Shack for $1.99 and it worked like a charm. Didn't have to reprogram any buttons.

So you may want to look for some-type of controller (It doesn't have to be a joystick or FSX controller) that works for you. I'm assuming that since you have enough mobility to use a keyboard and mouse that there is something out there.

There are some modified controllers that allow for one-handed use. Here are a couple:

There are even sites devoted to disabled gamers like this one:

Or if you put in the practice time, you can master the keyboard and mouse. If you go that route I would defiantly print out a keystroke chart for the type of plane you are flying.

Hello,

I don't have a joystick, just a wheel.

It's possible to play with a mouse, set the level of realism on low, it's like playing an arcade game.
You don't need plugins like mouse as yoke :)
Only thing missing is a pov hat to have easy access to camera.
and maybe direct access to thrust command and more switch

Now i only have to learn keyboard shortcurts, i forgot everything about how to fly since i played 2004 century of flight.

I'm just curious to know... From which country are you talking? You may have no idea how expensive are these kind of stuff in the country where I live in, Brazil. Almost everything is overpriced, because everything is ruled by the high taxes. Ex. While in the United States you pay $27,00 for a Logitech Extreme 3d... here you'll pay R$250,00 (around U$92,00). But the difference is not limited only by the price, also you may consider that our purchasing power is even smaller compared to an U.S citizen, because of our very minimum wage, that is R$724,00 (U$ 268,00). I have a Saitek Yoke and Rudders and you will cry if I tell you how much I paid on it.

thanks again for your help. the biggest problem for me, using joysticks, is, that then, i cant reach the keyboard, because my strength is very limited. but i have bought the fs and will try it out. if it is ok to just fly around, it is ok for me. and maybe, i search for a better input method. thanks again for your thoughts.

lol why do people think they are not playing a game :) X-plane 10 is more developed than this ( and I own both ) BUT THEY ARE STILL GAMES. not only a game lol
