Obsolete MSXML 4.0 parser used in FSX. Security risk?
FSX installs MSXML 4.0 parser and SDK, and does not work without it. MSXML 4.0 is obsolete since april 2014. Is this a problem and a security risk?

Why do you call it Obsolete? There are later versions of MSXML than 4 just like there are a lot of applications written for NET versions that are not the latest. So far we have never seen any issues (other than not having the correct version) and no reports of security problems - but of course these are turning up all the time in Windows.

Thank you for the response. I run windows 8.1 and FSX installs MSXML4, SP2 on my system. I was just worried because according to Secunia PSI this software is out-of-date and the Microsoft site itself says MSXML4 is obsolete. I updated MSXML4 to SP3, so I hope it is okay.

MSXML4 is no longer supported by Microsoft. That does not mean it is obsolete but will no longer update. Most software has a life cycle and then the next version of software is introduced.

There are still many user computers and FS9/FSX players that have Windows XP which Microsoft no longer supports but we don't say it is obsolete just because MS no longer supports it.

Convincing people that certain software is obsolete and to purchase the lastest and greatest software version is a sales technique even if it is Microsoft saying it.
