How to make camera not snap back to center view when looking around
I dont want the camera to snap back to looking forward when im trying to look away. Specifically, in cockpit view when i check instruments and have to hold the joystick down to keep my view.
How can i go about this? I dont see it in the options

If I remember correctly the key for this in CFS2 was F9. However, I don't think it is mapped in FSX. FSX and CFS2 stem from the same basic engine so the available key bindings for both are in FSX.

In the Controls settings/buttons/keys tab, change the event category drop down to Views. From there, scroll down to almost the very bottom until you see View (pan). Just assign the controller input to this, and it should pick up the full range of axes.
EDIT: It has to be an 8-way hat-type input. I've found that FSX doesn't respond to my analogue "mushroom" controls on my game controller.

I have a controller(hate it) and I have a throttle and stick setup, much more intuitive, if you have a PC, BUY A JOYSTICK and save your mind, otherwise you are going against your natural instincts trying to control an aircraft or helicopter...Joysticks w/throttle arent that expensive...or if you have enough get a stickk and throttle combo, and perhaps rudder pedals, it will make your experience all the more pleasant

Hehe Mike! You and I both know that things can escallate real quick. My first taste of simulator and I was hooked. X52Pro, TrackIR, Saitek Peddles and now a TM Warthog, all contributed to my simulation experience over the years. Next it'll be bigger monitors and/or Oculus Rift. I don't know if my marriage can survive another exorbitant purchase...

is there anything i can edit in the config? i'm not sure
skyguy Apr 12, 2017 @ 6:55pm
If you go to your Steam/common/fsx/ folder, there is a camera.cfg you can edit that will allow you to change the snapreturn and/or panreturn variable value from true to false. That should stop the camera from snapping back to the center.

FSX:SE F9 key will put in VC panel you can then pan around the sockpit, F10 will take you back to 2D panel .

Are the settings maybe reverting because the file isn't set to Read-Only?

As far as i can see there is only one cfg file but I'll try using the search function, also i didn't think about the read only thing, I'll have a look tomorrow.

Thanks.

I want to apologize. You are correct, there is only one camera.cfg. I got confused and was thinking of the scenery.cfg file. Sorry about that.

Use the steam controller API. Set it as a straight Xinput mapping but then change the stick you want to use for looking around as "mouse" then the click action as "Left Shift + O".
