Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition

Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition

Verified that Bojote's Tweaking and Tuning tool works with FSX:SE
You just need to rename the resulting file you will download from fsx.cfg to fsx_se.cfg

This was a great tool back in the day without having to get into the guts of the fsx.cfg file. With the recent improvement in performance I'm unsure if there's any benefit to using this..? I used the resulting .cfg file but didn't notice a huge improvement but then again I'm using an older video card and a e8400 processor. Users with higher end systems might see more difference. It certainly didn't slow anything down for me so give it a shot.

The link is: http://www.venetubo.com/fsx.html

If steam blocks the link just do a google for "Bojote's Tweaking"

It would be nice if you could post back your results. If so, maybe the Devs could look at what's being changed in the .cfg file and utilize the info somehow..?

Cheers!

Yep it worked for me. I'm running an i5 4440 cpu.
threads mean nothing in fsx, cores only....I am hoping that bojotes gets updated for the steam edition
It still works with FSX:SE

Why are you bumping all these threads from January? :spazdunno:
Kosta's is better!
Thanks A LOT for that link mate! It helped me out in my problem of getting "Terrain.dll" crashes. I'm so happy i can finally fly with my PMDG 737 over that beautiful Orbx Global world! Wohoo! Thanks man! (Oh and more importantly thanks Bojote! I'll donate him a beer!)
I would actually advise not using this tool until you look at the changes it suggests and then use google to research their impact. Bufferpools is no longer relevant in FSX Steam Edition as it uses a dynamic buffer, for most users the Shader 3 mod will break your FSX unless you are using an AMD/ATI card, changing the amount of batching jobs only work for Core2Duo cpus or older, etc. This tool was last updated 6 years ago when programmable GPU's were just becoming a thing so it is very outdated. It may work for you but it may also cause some problems down the road, so do your homework before you apply it to your .cfg

Considering that it applies to an 8 year old piece of software code; sufficed to say a 6 year old tool is not exactly outdated.

Also, it works. If it does not work, than there are probably other issues at hand.

Obviously, there is no requirement to use every single tweak, but there are no show-stoppers in the tool.

I think he has a point I never use those fiixes nowdays with my 970 gtx they cause more problems down the road anyways. After SP2 fixes fsx done a lot of tools there are not much use for GPU made after 2010.

It "works" in that it wont immediately break your game. But it is largely unncessary and will result in degraded performance of your sim if you are using modern hardware. It can cause problems with wave animations, ground texture loading, and autogen popping just to name a few. If you feel that it works for you then more power to you, but FSX Steam is not the 9 year old FSX that we are used to and the hardware that we use is not 6 year old hardware. Think about it, the high end card of that time was from the Nvidia 7xxx series cards. Just advising people to use caution when copying and pasting this .CFG into their FSX Steam Edition installs.

One would assume that people using this kind of tweak are clever enough to make a back-up of thier cfg file first. Ergo, if the tweak breaks fsx, then just copy the original cfg back to it's resting place. Sorted. I tried this tweak last week (on the original cfg file) and saw fps jump from around 25 to nearer 40 ish.

AMD 6300 @ 4.05 Ghz. Nvidia GTX 660 (2GB). 16 GB system RAM. Plenty of HD space.

That's right! There's now other people using it to advise people to be cautious about using the tool that you bumped.

If you read the stuff at the rop of the file, there is a link to your original .cfg file downlload, stored for something like 10 days.
