Try the PMDG 737-800NG
That is payware. But PMDG makes more realistic planes. Every button in the 737-800 is usable. I paid € 60,-- and DAMNIT it feels realistic.

I'm working with the 737 from PMDG right now. So it does work. But be careful! First time I tried it out I couldn't even get the engine running. They've made it as close to life as possible. Right now I'm trying to set up the fmc for a flight to Kosovo. But route-finding is kinda hard.

The 737 needs Active Sky Next for wx radar to work and for flight planning I recommend PFPX - Professional Flight Planner X. You can use the 737s FMC to import plan directly from PFPX which makes life so much easier.

Is there a patch for the 737NGX?

I'll look that up! Thx!

This is the flight planner I use for my PMDG free online, http://www.simroutes.com/fb2/showplans.aspx . just download the PMDG rte and put it in the PMDG route folder. I used this checklist when I first got the PMDG http://www.carsten-rau.com/diverses/ivao/Checklist-737-PMDG-737NGX.pdf

In North America use www.flightaware.com for current flightplans. In Europe and other parts of the world, VRoute Free is probably the best bet. PFPX is excellent and what I use but there are some good free options out there as well that will give you proper fuel loading information. Simbrief is probably the best free option available at the moment.

There is some good advice in this thread. I've tried many of the above. I continue to utilize flightaware.com as it provides up to the minute real world flight followings, including waypoints planned and flown.

However, the best freeware flight planner that I've found, is at: www.simbrief.com

Sometimes, I'll follow a real time flight via flightaware.com and plug in its route into simbrief.com

Nevertheless, simbrief.com will provide a professional flight plan, if you don't enter the waypoints directly.

Simbrief.com will also provide the following:

Detailed Navlog, ETOPS Planning, Plan Stepclimbs, Runway Analysis, NOTAMS, FIR NOTAMS.

Based on current live weather conditions, simbrief.com will also provide the estimated Departure & Arrival Runways, the ETE, and the best Cruise Altitude for the chosen Airframe you'll be flying, with consideration to the present winds aloft - at precise altitudes.

The following flight plan formats can be downloaded: Airbus Extended, FS2004, FSX, iFly 737NG, iFly 747V2, IVAO/IVAP, Level-D 767, PMDG Flightplan, PMDG Wind Uplink, QualityWings, Squawkbox, Wilco Airbus Evo, X-Plane.

Better yet, as of AIRAC 1403, there is no cost. Naturally, the latest AIRAC requires further expense.

Why pay for something that can be done with just a bit of ingenuity? In this case, I haven't found anything else that will formulate a complete flight plan - all variables included - as does simbrief.com - without an asking price.

Full Disclosure: I am not in any way affiliated with simbrief.com
