Steam edition includes SP1 and SP2 as well as acceleration...
I leave it up to you to decide
I have an old vista box with Q6600 quad core, 8 gig ram, Nvidia 520oc with 2 gig, runs just fine on mine
FS2004 needed a cd to run but FSX doesn't but it does require activation.
I applaud Dovetail for taking it on but they must make improvements. At present the Boxed version is much more stable. FSX_SE crashes or loses scenery because of Dll conflicts. That has to be addressed.
As far as FPS and smoothness is concerned, FSX Gold Edition with the acceleration pack installed does just as well as the SE version.
This is just my opinion since I have both.
i have both as well, and have a complete reverse opinion of the above. SE runs much better and crashes less. its not perfect, but it's a lot better
