FSX DVD CD key?
Hi. Nit installed my boxed version for ages on a new PC as well this time and formatted my old PC ages ago so i knew its not been on. But today i went and installed FSX DVD verdson and tried to activate it and no look it said invalid. I checked all the key i entered and was the same as my key on Box. Any one else having problems or has steam FSX version is now the only way to play it?. Or dont you need to activate the DVD version now?.

I believe MS has a workaround for the CD_Key, but in reality, the steam edition is esentially the same without the SDK and Gamespy, but the steam platform is allowing MP thru steam
Steam edition includes SP1 and SP2 as well as acceleration...
I leave it up to you to decide
I have an old vista box with Q6600 quad core, 8 gig ram, Nvidia 520oc with 2 gig, runs just fine on mine
I just recently re-installed my box version of fsx and had no problems activating it.
Microsoft has nothing to do with FSX now but I think the activation process is still live. FSX is a nearly 10 years old and Aces never really finished it. I think they had plans but MS pulled the plug. The FSX ESP still lives on though in either FSX:SE or P3D. One is very expensive and one is cheaper. Either one will save you the heartache of tweaking FSX boxed version and either one will give you more stability and smoothness.
Microsoft FSX is still selling at most software outlets, even Walmart so to say Microsoft has nothing to do with FSX is incorrect They are no longer developing it or improving it but they are still selling it. So the activation site has to remain open.

FS2004 needed a cd to run but FSX doesn't but it does require activation.

I applaud Dovetail for taking it on but they must make improvements. At present the Boxed version is much more stable. FSX_SE crashes or loses scenery because of Dll conflicts. That has to be addressed.

As far as FPS and smoothness is concerned, FSX Gold Edition with the acceleration pack installed does just as well as the SE version.

This is just my opinion since I have both.

i have both as well, and have a complete reverse opinion of the above. SE runs much better and crashes less. its not perfect, but it's a lot better
Interesting. Probaby difference in rigs. FSX boxed has never crashed on me and I have a zillion addons. I've had it since 2006 and have went through a number of computers during that time. Who knows.:)
