ORBX and REX
Help? I plan on getting FTX: Global BASE. My question is, which REX product should I get? Is REX 4 or Essential Plus redundant with the ORBX product? Should I just get Soft Clouds?
Thanks in advance!

Get Rex soft clouds HD pkg. WAIT on Orbx its having problems with it installing the 1st 2 you will like.
I installed ORBX day 2 of FSX SE release. I also have rex4. Both work with the SE. And let me tell you, its a beautiful sight to see when flying with these 2 add ons. Money worth spent for scennic flying or flying airliners. You wont regret it. With ORBX, in my hometown, there is a mountain and a highway that goes through it. Default shows just a road and the mountain isnt even accurate in size or Deformity. When I got ORBX, my Goodness i was impressed. The mountain is accurate now and the highway that crosses through it now shows it connecting to a town i grew up in . Big change. Get them!! And its accurate in all airports, land, sea etc. There is also and expansion for ORBX that makes it even more better texture wise but my comp atm cant handle that. But im very satisfied with the way it looks with both of them

REX and FTX are two different things. And REX soft clouds is a third different thing.

FTX Global replaces all your ground textures. I don't have it but it'll change what fields and streets and houses look like in very simple terms.

REX changes other environment textures, clouds is the one it's famous for and it also has a real time weather engine to replace the FSX one. But you can also change a lot of other stuff with it too, runway textures - all different tarmac and concrete surfaces - it does different taxi markings, sky colours, weather sounds, different wave animations for the sea.... Loads of stuff.

REX soft clouds just replaces low level cloud textures so they look all 3D and soft and fluffy. It doesn't do anything else but it integrates with REX4 now and it only costs 10 bucks. I think REX is more than you need right now, get soft clouds - it costs next to nothing and looks lovely. You can always get REX 4 later.
Plue you can make your own themes and see ratings from other users and download theirs also the HD is nice and you can use DTX also in the settings.I bought FSX booster also it has DX10 fix and you click set how you want to and just fly save alot of time messing with config file.
I have running
Orbix
Rex Ess Plus HD
Rex 4 Texture
Traffic 360
Aerosoft Airbus Bundle
uk2000 Airports EGSS, EGLC

Works perfect no issues and looks fantastic now I just need my FSPasenngerX back and I will be happy man :-)

As people have said above REX updates the graphical enviroment such as better looking cloud textures, water effect and wave animations, sounds in the simulator and airport enhancements such as runway and taxiways. Soft Clouds will improve the look of love level clouds making giving them more volume, make them look fluffy ect.

FTX Global is then a ground texture addon that improves the scenery bu adding in new ground textures to replace the defaults, as well as better looking Autogen. If you are getting FTX Global Base you might want to think about getting Global Vector as well it adds a number of enhacements to go along with the texture ones in Global Base such as, placing main roads such as motorways and freeways in the correct place, more accurate coastlines, placing Golf Courses ,City Parks and in correct locations, and correct airport elevations for default FSX airports.
alternative to Global Vector is Ultimate Terrain X (UTX) series

ALL THE ROADS: Every available road from the chosen commercial navigation data set, with each road accurately placed to match its real-world location.

ENHANCED RAILROADS: Greatly enhanced railroads, including rail-yards.

NIGHT LIGHTING: autogen night lighting, plus a new interface to alow you to tweak your environment to your liking..

DETAILED OCEANIC COASTLINES: Plus islands, lakes, rivers and streams. No more roads over water!

ACCURATE LANDCLASS: Better representation of metropolitan areas.

DETAILED LAND POLYGONS: Parks, golf courses, and cemeteries are much better represented.

I use the landclass from Scenery Tech

It might be because you're saving as the default flight? There's a tick box in the save window.

I always have my 'default' save flight with a default aircraft. The default save stores all the info that's preloaded when you start FSX about the condition of the aircraft. If the default flight has engines running then all aircraft you load will have engines running, and the opposite if shut down etc. FSX also gets things like radio frequencies from this flight.

Because of this I wouldn't save a default flight with an add on aircraft. So that might be the problem. Dodosim is some funky rotary wing isn't it?

There's a config setting
DisablePreload=1
which goes in your fsx.cfg file and makes FSX start without loading the default save. Do a google of it before messing with your cfg file, make sure it goes in the right place and back up your cfg file before messing with it.

Thanks all! I ended up getting Orbx FTX global and REX 4 w/ soft clouds. However, I'm having install issues w/ REX. It tells me my system isn't compatible with the .exe file. I'm running WIN 7 64-bit so pretty basic. REX support blows by the way...

Don't install REX to 'program files' folder, it won't lke that. Make a C:\REX or E:\REX or similar to install it to. Mine's in c:\games\REX.

Right click the installer and 'run as admin' - try that.
I'm just trying to run it from my desktop. I created a folder on C called REX and copied the files there, same result. Thanks for helping! It's very frustrating, but I'm sure it'll work eventually...
I was really happy with FTX global until I started flying around the deserts/arid areas and all airports where bright green, certainly not an upgrade.

Only way to fix the errors I found will be to purchase the openLC packs.
