But if you still cant activate game on activation screen which appears when starting FSX boxed edition first time you should check this: http://www.microsoft.com/Products/Games/FSInsider/downloads/Pages/FlightSimulatorXActivationPatch.aspx
FSX is also available in a boxed version from a number of retailers. The two version are not related and should be considered different games. You can not use the code in the boxed version to access FSX:SE on Steam.
If we can help you with anything else relating to FSX:SE please let us know.

The cd version has got nothing at all to do with the Steam version with regard to codes. You can not activate the cd version of FSX on Steam and download and play FSX. The code you have will only activate the boxed version of FSX if you install it from the cds.
As Morag MacRae points out thubble9 the CD version of FSX is not related to the Steam Edition. You can not use your CD code to activate a copy of the game on Steam. The code supplied with the CD version is for activating FSX not FSX:Steam Edition. If you own the boxed edition of Microsoft Flight Simulator X and you need help please contact Microsoft directly. Their primary support area for FSX is here[support.microsoft.com].

Well, if MS can't do anything then you need to go back to the seller.
Well, you are probably stuffed then. My guess is that the code has already been used and remains active and so cannot be used again which makes the disc useless, unless you want to use it as a coaster to put your drinks on.
and true
Look at it this way, you learned a lesson, we all got a chuckle out of it. That's a win win situation. And the guy at the second hand shop got your money so it's win win win
(put FSX on your wishlist and wait for a sale, sorry you got burned.)
After you install the FSX box version there is a file in the root folder named
Phone Activation.xml
Locate this file and open with notepad. In the list there are 230 Phone Activation Contact Locations so find your Country and call the phone number that is listed. Be at your computer with the FSX activation window open so you can give the activation support group your code.
DO NOT call Microsoft Support since they can not access any of the activation records.
If by chance you are in Korea the phone number for Korea does not appear correctly in the Activation List. The Korean product activation number is:
Korea: Toll=1577-9700 (Nation wide local toll only); +82 (2) 567-7881
As stated above you bought the FSX box version. The code supplied with the CD version is for activating FSX not FSX:Steam Edition.
