MilViz Beaver DHC-2 Issues for FSX:SE
I recently purchased the MilViz/Blackbird Simulations DHC-2 Beaver for Prepar3D V4/FSX:SE – both the base pack and the expansion pack.

I am running it on a MSI Aegis RS Gaming Desktop with 11 Gen intel core i7-11700KF GeForce RTX 3070. I loaded the base back following instructions to load .exe file as administrator.

DHC-2 Base Pack Issues:

I have been flying using the base pack for about a week and really enjoy the plane; however, I have noticed the following issues when compared to watching You Tube videos the same plane that if I could correct would add to the enjoyment of the Sim:
1. When I start the plane, the manifold pressure reads about 30 psi, but it drops to 0 when the engine stares/when flying the Beaver.
2. When flying the Cylinder Temperature gauge remains a zero.
3. I am unable to locate the fuel primary handle between the pilot’s seat and left door. Too when I turn the fuel pump on then the starter the plane does not start, though I can use Ctrl E to fire it up.
4. I noticed there are no “pop outs” for this plane (and that may be the case). Should there be?
5. Finally, and most important, I am also wondering if there is a video for FSX to show how to use the Milviz Addon Management System. I have followed the procedures outlined in the accompanying manual on using the System – aka setting up the various parameters using the four tabs, but for instance I haven’t been able to load up any passengers; add a cover, chocks; change the propeller from 2 to 3 blades – those kinds of issues. At this point the only air aircraft I can select is the Beaver (as I don’t have any other MilViz planes).

Also, there is no In-Game Configuration in the Add-ons bar within FSX so I cannot select a plane and configured the aircraft is loaded in the simulator. The configurable options accessible in-game pertain to the passenger and/or cargo load, as well as a variety of visual options such as those relating to a cold and dark aircraft. The in-game menu that allows access to these options is found in the menu bar, under the menu option “Add-ons”, titled “DHC-2”.

DHC-2 Expansion Pack:
When I loaded in the expansion pack – again as administrator, the first thing it told me “Error opening file for execution > C\USER\Tom\AppsData\Local\MVAMS\MVAMS.exe.”
It allows you to ignore this, which I did, then it loaded the program. However once loaded, when you go into set up a beaver, I get the following statement:
“MV-WX.dll incompatible with this sim.”

For now, I uninstalled both programs and if nothing more, will reload the base program, which I know works.

Any suggestions regarding improvements to the base program and fixing the Expansion program would be appreciated. Be advised I am not a technical person – just a flight simmer.

Also, if some of these issues are addressed in the Beaver Support Forum, please direct me to those responses.

Thanks,
Tom T.

It's been a while since I've flown it, but I had similar issues starting up the MilViz DHC-3 Otter. IIRC the problem is related to the "Cold and Dark" state the aircraft is placed in by default. FSX doesn't support cold starts by default, but some dev studios have managed to implement it via external config utilities. In order to resolve this I believe you will need to successfully run the MVAMS.EXE (MilViz Addon Manager System) applet and change the state. Checking my MVAMS, I noticed my state for the DHC-3 Otter is "Current Condition", which I believe was required in order for it to successfully start up in game. My advice is to create a shortcut to MVAMS and run it as Administrator.

The MV_WX.DLL should be located in your DHC-2 Beaver's \panel folder and that's the dll that controls the MilViz/REX Radar Weather gauge. Mine has a version number of 1.11.38 and I don't recall having any problems with it in game. From you comments above, it sounds like you ran the Beavers installation app as Administrator, which is what I'd recommend as it sounds like you might be encountering some permission issues.

I'll just finally add, that the MilViz Otter was definitely worth the effort as it was a terrific aircraft to fly with a realistic flight model and particularly impressive engine sounds.

Thanks Kronovan...I will follow your advice and see what happen. Andes, the Beaver is fun to fly (as I assume the Otter is) even if I can't get some of the gauges to work.

Also, I am using FSUIPC Version 4.977 for FSX:SE; do you know it that is the best version to use for the MILViZ Beaver

And I currently am not registered and haven't ever registered in the past. Do I need to / should I register for better performance?

Thanks.

While I don't have any advice for FSX-SE, I did recently buy the DHC-3 for P3D v4.5 where I did encounter a bunch of issues that I worked through and have it all working pretty good atm including the MVAMS which is installed within ~\AppData\Local\MVAMS.

And yes it is a great plane, I'm really enjoying it and I'm sure others will as well.

Cheers
