Hi General_Hz(TAW_BlueKnight),

FSX: SE has a wealth of graphics options available. It is worth taking the time to work your way through these and customise your setup.

You might like to check out the video in this thread:

It will show you how to setup the various graphics options to get the most out of your system.

I hope that helps,

- Martin

FSX is a 32bit game from 2006. Not even NASA could get FSX: SE running at a solid 60FPS all the time. At FL380 over the Atlantic, 60FPS is easily achievable. Wait until a 64bit sim comes out if you want 60FPS.

Can't I get it to 40? at least, I mean 20 FPS average is abysmal

Tried this site with not much success http://www.venetubo.com/cgi-bin/fsx.cgi

This is not a game for FPS counting. It is a question of what runs smoothly. You will find that a lot of users cap it within the game at 30 FPS anyhow; you will simply not get 60 FPS except very occasionally.

The tool you linked to has been around for years, everyone has used it at some stage and most have ditched it. I would suggest, if you have been fiddling with your .cfg as you evidently have that you rename your existing one and then launch FSX:SE and let it create a new one. Then simply use the sliders to get that right combination between graphical quality and smoothness of video.

Forget about FPS chasing.

that;s my problem, the gfx maxed out and it looks awefull so I don';t see how lowering it will help. and I get 20FPS at average and it;s not smooth at all

FSX has always be horrible looking when playing it purely out of the box. This is why you invest in freeware and payware addons to make the game look beautiful. It is possible, just not at 60FPS. More like 20-30.

I would love to get a stable 25-30; but even with current graphocs it drops to 15 and even one digit numbers.

I can comfertably maintain 20-35FPS depending on where I am. At Aerosoft's Heathrow in my Captain Sim 773, I tend to get 20ish. At a more frame friendly payware airport, like FlyTampa. I'm usually around 30/35FPS. Obviously playing at night time, you tend to get around a 5FPS increase because it's not having to render everything like it would in the daytime hours.

Point of case, I'm currently over the Gulf of Oman enroute to Sydney from Dubai and I'm holding 36-40FPS at FL370 in the Captain Sim 777-300. But that because all the game is rendering is the a/c and water. Nothing else. Oh, and it's almost midnight in real time over there.

I'm running an un-tweeked version of FSX, Dovetail have done a marvelous job at tweaking the Steam Edition already. I can highly recommend running FSX off it's own SSD though. Best £65 I've spent. Instantly notice a 10FPS+ increase. And this is on my i4690k at 4.3GHz, 280X GPU.

There simply isn't one magical fix that'll sort FSX out. Everyone's system is different so it takes a lot of trial and error to find the sweet spot :)

Well I fly quite Low with my a2a c182t. height i flew was FL120 once for a long trip

Low VFR flying is demanding because you're loading in all the autogen at that flight level. But even so, it's still possible to achieve 20/25. Especially with a stock FSX install/no addon scenery.

I have found the biggest frame rate killer to be bloom, if you have it enabled you may find a good frame rate boost by turning it off. Switching road traffic off completely can also give a few more fps.
